  • Patent number: 5227876
Abstract: A system and method for organizing and processing signals from multiple sources subdivides the source data into a plurality of processing paths. The data is stored in a buffer on each path in packages having fixed length words. A buffer controller controls drawing of the packages to a multiplexer and prevents underflow and overflow in each of the buffers. The multiplexer combines the data packages from each path and from each source according to a generation time priority. Each package includes a heading indicating its source and destination paths. The packages are transmitted along a transmission line, and the data is demultiplexed and outputted according to the headings.

  • Patent number: 5228028
Abstract: A system for structuring information outputted at a variable bit rate from a video signal encoder and for organizing the information into information units or packets. The information packets are compatible for transmission and processing by packet transmission networks such as asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), capable of sending transmission data streams at variable speed. In a preferred embodiment, the system uses an encoder that comprises video units. Each video unit contains information classified into three distinct classes. Each video unit is associated with a video packet comprising a header and a body. Each of the three distinct classes of information associated with a video unit uses a different technique for tho providing protection of that information against transmission errors and/or information packet loss.

  • Patent number: 5197021
Abstract: A system for calculating the discrete cosine transform of dimension M*M which is orthogonal and separable under the form of two monodimensional transforms calculated by a fast algorithm, by operating on incoming and outgoing words, in the form of parallel bits, and by operating on the data internally in the system in words represented by 2M bits. The operations of addition and subtraction between variable data and the operations of multiplying by the variable data using fixed coefficients are made on the data represented in the form of M couples of serialized bits, so that the speed of the incoming and outgoing words, in the form of words of parallel bits, is equal to the speed of bit couples that represent the internal data.

  • Patent number: 5025460
Abstract: A system for processing and transmitting a clock signal, in particular the video synchronization frequency Fsr, in order to obtain a binary flow with pre-fixed and desired speed, e.g. a flow at 64 Kb/s. The system can survey the jitter of Fsr and determine its value, using this value to suitably condition the information flow at output. In a typical application, this information, together with a video/audio signal, forms four musical channels and, with low speed, flows to the inputs of a circuit that carries out multiplexing at 34368 Kb/s, according to the European standard. This multiplexer operating at 34368 Kb/s can be advantageously used in systems and equipment for the processing of the television signal using mono or bidimensional transformation coding to obtain a high compression of the information to be transmitted.

  • Patent number: 4991164
Abstract: A system for stabilization of the coupling value between the transmitted radio signals resulting from cross polar discrimination, using the transmit power level control in radio link systems formed of several radio channels using multilevel QAM modulation. A first control signal is derived for each RF channel and a second control signal is derived for the adjacent channels. The first and second control signal are then combined to derive threshold signals. The threshold signals are multiplexed with station identification signals and this multiplexed signal is multiplexed with other service signals. The twice multiplexed signal is then inserted in the frame of a main information signal. The signal is demultiplexed to derive a remote transmit power control signal. The atmospheric precipitation condition is evaluated through statistical control of the bit error rate. A local transmit power control signal is derived.

  • Patent number: 4894710
Abstract: A system which permits a color television signal to be efficiently encoded by a unidimensional or bidimensional transform. The color television signal input to the system is sampled using a variable frequency sampling clock, and the sampled signal is digitally processed. The result is three signals having statistical characteristics similar to the individual component signals of the original color television signal. These resultant signals are encoded to obtain a highly compressed color television signal for transmission.

  • Patent number: 4871687
Abstract: In a Schottky field effect MESFET transistor including a semiconductor substrate and source, gate and drain electrodes, the electrical resistance of the gate is reduced to substantially zero by implementing the gate electrode as a sheet of metallization which bypasses a portion of the source electrode and which is spaced from the source electrode by a layer of air or the like. The MESFET transistor may be fabricated by providing drain and source electrodes on a semiconductor substrate with the electrodes situated side-by-side. Photoresist is applied over at least the source electrode while leaving exposed (a) a first portion of the substrate surface between the source and drain electrodes and (b) a second portion of the substrate surface situated on an opposite side of the source electrode and which is used as a bonding pad location. Gate metallization is then formed over the photoresist and in contact with the first and second areas of the substrate surface.

  • Patent number: 4677402
Abstract: A microwave filter which is optimized to reduce its dimensions, weight, cost, and manufacturabiity includes a filter body which is preferably manufactured by pressure die-casting of an aluminum alloy. In the filter body are formed a plurality of cavities in which resonators as well as tuning and connection screws are located. The cavities are so located with respect to each other that a line which joins the centers thereof appears as the series of connected line segments which are inclined with respect to each other at angles which exceed 90.degree.. To compensate the filter for the relatively larger coefficient of expansion associated with the use of die-castable alloys, the resonators and tuning screws employ materials which are different than that used in the filter body. Electrical losses are minimized by varying, from cavity to cavity, the ratio of the diameter of the cavity to that of the resonator. The weight of the filter is further reduced by cavities or voids which are formed therein.

  • Patent number: 4578790
Abstract: The system and equipment according to the invention carry out the (SSB) frequency multiplexing and demultiplexing of N base band sampled signals by purely digital processing. On the multiplexing path the apparatus comprises a time invariant single filter having a single input and only one output. At said unique filter input the N signals to be multiplexed are applied which are in form a single signal that is the time multiplexing of said N signals. The signal at the filter output is sent to a successive modulator which is a multiplier having a time varying multiplying coefficient. The real samples of the modulator output signal provide the SSB frequency multiplexed signal of the N incoming signal paths.

  • Patent number: 4412325
Abstract: The equipment disclosed in the present invention provides means for SSB multiplexing and demultiplexing base-band signals, equal in number to a power of two, digital signal processing techniques. The frequency modulation process of the base-band signals is partly performed with a discrete Fourier Transform (D.F.T.), the dimension of which is appreciably reduced with respect to the number of signals to be multiplexed, and partly with modulators (multipliers), some of which are of simple construction and which are fewer in number than the number of signals to be multiplexed. Filtering is effected with a set of filters with different frequency repetition periods and which, when cascade connected, from a pass-band filter equal to the frequency band which characterizes every base-band signal. The frequency repetition period of the entire filter is equal to the sampling frequency of the multiplexed signal.
