Abstract: A data network in which at least one switch is provided with the facility for estimating current network demands using a polygonal approximation to scaled cumulant generating function. The approximaton is iteratively refined in accordance with sampled data passing through the switch. The switch estimates the demand associated with a new data processing request as it is received by the switch and decides whether to accept the request based on available resources.

Abstract: A method and apparatus increase a maximum available bit rate on a single data link, in order to gain capacity within single cells. An orthogonal frequency division multiplex signal is filtered by a pulse shaping operation so as to suppress side lobes of the signal. This pulse shaping introduces known inter symbol interference (ISI) and loses orthogonality between subcarriers. However, a receiver utilizes the idea of overcoming ISI by applying equalization to the signal such that the loss of orthogonality is overcome.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for debiting of messages transmitted from a local network, A, to a public network, B. The user in the local network obtain or purchase stamps which can be used in connection with message transmission between the two networks. The stamps are purchased from subscriber equipments in the public network, B. The stamps are stored in a stamp register, where each stamp is given a unique number, date of issue, and to whom it has been issued, and time of validity. In connection with the use of the stamps the user state the stamp number which is identified by the system which in connection with the message transmission delete the mentioned stamp from the stamp register. The debiting for the stamps are made either at the purchase or in connection with the use of the stamps. Stamps which have been paid in advance and which have not been used within one in advance prescribed time of validity causes a repayment to the subscriber in the public network.
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for adapting data models in adaptive speaker verification systems or similar adaptive systems using models based on data collected from a person, system or process during a certain time period. A plurality of different model units are used in the same speaker verification system. The verification system is put into operation using a simple model unit requiring a small amount of speech data. During the use, more speech data is collected continuously. This speech data is used to further train either (1) only more complex model units, or (2) both the simple model unit already in operation and the more complex model units. At suitable intervals, a comparison is made of the performance capacities of the model units. Once a more complex model unit yields a more reliable verification result, the more complex model unit is assigned to take over the verification in the operating situation. The more complex model unit may be put into operation either instantaneously or gradually, e.g.
Abstract: In a communications network, first information items are transmitted synchronously and second information items asynchronously. The second information items are overlaid on the synchronously transmitted first information items. A bandwidth accessible on transmission can be variably distributed between the first and second information items and, with the desired variable distribution, transmitting and receiving units become synchronized by synchronization information which is transmitted via a channel established for asynchronous transmission between the transmitting and receiving units.
