Abstract: The present disclosure relates to the delivery of data or over a communications network. In a preferred form it relates to the delivery of data, such as media content, software or application updates and web content, to devices such as smartphones, tablets and notebook computers. In an embodiment, the system 100 includes one or more recipient devices (e.g. 102a, 102b, 102c) for receiving data and a data deliverer 104 communicatively coupled to the one or more recipient devices (e.g. 102a, 102b, 102c) via a communications network 106. The one or more recipient devices (e.g. 102a, 102b and 102c) and the data deliverer 104 may be located remotely from one another. In an embodiment, the data deliverer 104 is configured to perform a method 200 including steps 202, 204, 206 and 208. At step 202, the data deliverer 104 determines a schedule of data delivery.

Abstract: A system includes a rejection module in a phone configured to receive calls over a network and a remote rejection announcement server (RAS) configured to receive calls over the network. The rejection module is configured to generate at least a portion of an incoming call user interface (UI) on the phone. The UI indicates incoming call signalling, associated with an incoming call from a caller, over a call signalling path in the network. One or more rejection options is provided for selection by a caller. Rejection reason data is generated based on selecting one of the rejection options. The rejection reason data is sent using a rejection reason path separate from the call signalling path. The remote RAS is configured to receive the incoming call from the caller, receive the rejection reason data over the rejection reason path, and generate an audio/video message based on the rejection reason data.

Abstract: An information retrieval system, including a natural language parser (3) for parsing documents of a document space (1) to identify key terms of each document based on linguistic structure, and for parsing a search query to determine the search term, a feature extractor (4) for determining an importance score for terms of the document space (1) based on distribution of the terms in the document space (1), an index term generator (5) for generating index terms using the key terms identified by the parser (3) and the extractor (4) and having an importance score above a threshold level, and a query clarifier (16) for selecting from the index terms, on the basis of the search term, index terms for selecting at least one document from the document space (1). A speech recognition engine (12) is used to generate the query, and a bi-gram language module (6) generates grammar rules for the speech recognition engine (12) using the index terms.

Abstract: An information resource taxonomy system, including a data collector for collecting information resources from a communications network; and a taxonomy generator for generating a taxonomy represented by a hierarchy of resource clusters, using cluster criteria generated from the collected resources. The system includes an editor for editing the criteria, and a renderer for generating linked document data for displaying the hierarchy. A parallel cluster search system is used to evaluate clusters in parallel. The system also includes a parallel classifier for classifying further collected resources.

Abstract: An active node of a communications network includes a forwarding component for forwarding a packet of an active application, a processor for processing the packet, and a forwarding control component for modifying path data associated with the packet, based on the processing. The forwarding component can forward said packet directly to the network or via the processor. The processing can include executing code contained within the packet, and/or executing code to process application data in the packet. The path data can include the MPLS label stack of the packet and/or MPLS tables of the forwarding component. To allow processing based on multiple labels of a packet, the forwarding component can include a loopback connection between its input and output ports.

Abstract: A virtual token represents an item, and includes embedded data defining rules and/or capabilities which apply to the use of the item. A virtual token may include graphical image data which is used to generate a display on a computer, whereby selection of the display allows the item represented by the virtual token to be used. A virtual token may contain instructions for sending access requests to a location on a communications network. A system for handling virtual tokens includes a clearing and routing house for routing token access requests, authenticating and generating tokens, and maintaining container structures for tokens. The system also includes connectors installed in a communications network for creating, controlling and managing items represented by tokens, and device clients for executing token components that issue access requests to the clearing and routing house.

Abstract: A system for developing dialog systems estimates the speech recognition accuracy achievable when using a dialog system, and the number of example input phrases required to achieve a desired speech recognition accuracy. The maximum achievable speech recognition accuracy is also predicted. The development system thereby allows a developer of a dialog system to determine how and whether to continue development of the dialog system. The development system includes a grammatical inference engine for generating a grammar for the dialog system on the basis of example input phrases, and an in-grammar speech recognition accuracy estimator for generating the estimate of speech recognition accuracy on the basis of probabilities of confusing phonemes of input phrases with phonemes of the grammar.

Abstract: A method system, interface and server for establishing a communications call by selecting a B party (6) using an interactive device (16) connected to a public network (10,12), sending called address data for the B party (6) and calling address data for an A party (4) to a communications platform (18) of the public network (10,12), and establishing a call between the A and B parties (4,6) over the public network (10,12) using the communications platform (18) and the called and calling address data. The called address data can be accessed from the public network, and may reside on a server of a messaging network, such as the Internet.

Abstract: A search engine and system for data, such as Internet web pages, including a query analyser for processing a query to assign respective weights to terms of the query and to generate a query vector including the weights, and an index network responsive to the query vector to output at least one index to data in response to the query. The index network is a self-generating neural network built using training examples derived from a feature extractor. The feature extractor is used during both the search and training phase. A clusterer is used to group search results.

Abstract: A system for controlling the bandwidth allocated to a network connection between two nodes. The system receives a bandwidth change request, and generates and sends control commands to network switches of the connection in order to satisfy the change request. A bandwidth control interface, available over the Internet, has code for generating a display of bandwidths available for selection; code for receiving a bandwidth selection chosen from the bandwidths; and code for sending the change request to the network to adjust the bandwidth on the basis of the selection. The interface provides a bandwidth dial representation of the bandwidths that can be selected.

Abstract: A system for use in developing a voice application, including a dialog element selector for defining execution paths of the application by selecting dialog elements and adding the dialog elements to a tree structure, each path through the tree structure representing one of the execution paths, a dialog element generator for generating the dialog elements on the basis of predetermined templates and properties of the dialog elements, the properties received from a user of the system, each of said dialog elements corresponding to at least one voice language template, and a code generator for generating at least one voice language module for the application on the basis of said at least one voice language template and said properties. The voice language templates include VoiceXML elements, and the dialog elements can be regenerated from the voice language module. The voice language module can be used to provide the voice application for an IVR.
