Publication number: 20050076446Abstract: A cushion having an elastic core and a pillow top layer or portion. The elastic core can have one or more layers of foam to provide varying degrees of cushioning and support. The pillow top layer is positioned adjacent to the elastic core and includes a plurality of strips. Any number of strips can form the pillow top layer. The strips can all have the same density or the density can vary among the strips to provide comfort zones. The pillow top layer can be connected to the elastic core in a variety of ways, such as through the use of a common cover or separate covers joined together.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 14, 2003Publication date: April 14, 2005Applicant: Tempur World, Inc.Inventor: David Fogg

Patent number: 6578218Abstract: A pillow having a pivoting butterfly structure with two cushions pivotably interconnected by a hinge element to pivot between an open position and a closed position. Each cushion has a hinge end adjacent the hinge element, and a connecting end disposed at the end of the cushion opposite the hinge end. A middle portion is located between the hinge end and connecting end of each cushion. The cushions have a relatively flat inner surface and a curved contoured surface that extend the length of each cushion. The contoured surface projects away from the inner surface and forms two peaks near the hinge end and connecting end of each cushion. Between the peaks, the contoured surface curves inward back toward the inner surface and forms a concave groove near the middle portion of each cushion. A cover encases both cushions and contours the shapes of the cushions.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2001Date of Patent: June 17, 2003Assignee: Tempur World, Inc.Inventor: Gerda Wassilefsky
