The methods include the steps of contacting cells exposed to a mustard compound or at risk of exposure to a mustard compound with a composition comprising a polypeptide comprising RLIP76 or an active fragment or variant thereof. Optionally, the methods include the steps of administering to a subject exposed to a mustard compound or at risk of exposure to a mustard compound a composition comprising a polypeptide comprising RLIP76 or an active fragment or variant thereof.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to methods of administering RL1P76 or an active fragment thereof more than 24 hours after radiation exposure, wherein administration is effective for the protection and treatment of mammals exposed to radiation. In addition, compositions are disclosed including RLIP76 and other radioprotective agents, for example antioxidants.
