  • Patent number: 11388389
Abstract: A display device includes a display operable to generate a real image and an optical system including: a plurality of optical channel bundles, each bundle comprising one or more channels, each channel comprising a lenslet arranged to generate a sub-image from a respective partial real image on the display, Each lenslet is configured to project light from the display to a corresponding eye position among two eye positions. The sub-images combine to form two virtual images so that different optical channel bundles image a same portion of the display to different portions of the virtual images. The optical system is configured to allow light to flow through selected channels and prevent, light from flowing through other selected channels. The system successively opens the optical channel bundles and displays partial real images associated with the channels of the corresponding optical channel bundle.

Abstract: A display device arranged to generate a light field to illuminate a human eye. The light field comprising a plurality of pencils that virtually intersect a first reference surface and a second reference surface, said first reference surface being the plane passing through the eye ball sphere center and is perpendicular to the skull frontward direction, and said second reference surface located at a distance from the user's skull and being a portion of a sphere centered the eye hall sphere center. The center of said second reference surface defined as the intersection point of the line passing through the eye ball sphere center and pointing in the skull's frontwards direction. Each pencil is a set of straight lines, segments of said lines coincident with light ray trajectories illuminating the eye having approximately equal luminance and color at any time.

  • Publication number: 20210055560
Abstract: A display device with one or more displays and an optical system with a plurality of channels arranged to generate an immersive virtual image from the a image, the virtual image comprising a plurality of image pixels, by each channel projecting light from the object pixels to a respective pupil range. The object pixels are grouped into clusters, each associated with a channel that produces from the object pixels a partial virtual image comprising image pixels. The clusters of at least two channels are substantially contained in opposite half-spaces defined by a plane passing by the imaginary sphere center. Each of the two channels comprises one surface on which the imaging light rays forming the partial virtual image suffer a last reflection before reaching the pupil range, where each surface is substantially contained in the opposite half-space containing their respective clusters.

  • Patent number: 10782453
Abstract: A display device has a display, operable to generate a real image, and an optical system. In the optical system are at least two free-form reflective surfaces, S I and S2. At least one of the reflective surfaces is convex in one direction at substantially all points of its optically active area. Light rays from the display are reflected on SI before they are reflected on S2. The reflective surfaces SI and S2 are arranged to generate a virtual image from the real image on the display, by projecting light from the display to an eye position. The field of view occupied by the virtual image as seen from the eye position is greater than 50 degrees in at least one direction, preferably the direction linking the two eyes of an intended user.

  • Patent number: 10459126
Abstract: A given image is displayed by generating a succession of partial real images, each representing part of the given image and together representing the given image, and at least some of the partial real images occupying overlapping positions. The partial real images are successively imaged to form a sub-image viewable from an eye position. The sub-images combine spatially and temporally to form a virtual image viewable from the eye position so that said overlapping portions of different partial real images form different portions of the virtual image. The partial real images may be displayed on a digital or other display, and imaged by optical channels each using one or more lenslets.

  • Patent number: 10432920
Abstract: A display generates a real image of object pixels, from which an optical system with lenslets generates an immersive virtual image of image pixels, by each lenslet projecting light from the display to a respective pupil range on an imaginary eyeball subtending 15 degrees whole angle at the center of the eyeball. Object pixels are in clusters, each associated with a lenslet that produces from the object pixels a partial virtual image. The partial virtual images combine to form the immersive virtual image. Imaging light rays on the pupil range via a given lenslet come from the associated cluster. Imaging light rays falling on the pupil range from a given cluster pass through the associated lenslet. Imaging light rays exiting a given lenslet towards the pupil range from one image pixel of the immersive virtual image are from a single object pixel of the associated cluster.
