  • Patent number: 5413238
Abstract: A closure unit has, for additionally securing a new state, a predetermined breaking point (5), which at least partly passes around the pouring opening circumference and connects the pouring part (1) and the closure part (2). In order that the predetermined breaking point (5) is protected against damage and can only be broken by a force directed in the same direction as that necessary for opening the closure unit, on the outside of the closure unit the predetermined breaking point (5) is covered by a protection/support zone (10) and can also be supported on the inside of the closure unit by support zones (11), wherein the predetermined breaking point (6) is made of a different material (A) from the material (B) of the protection/support zone (10).

  • Patent number: 5372284
Abstract: A closure unit consists substantially of a closure part (2) and a pouring part (3). It has at least two areas of which each one consists of a thermoplastic material, wherein the material of one area differs from the material of a neighboring other area. The closure part (2) has an indicator (8) forming part of the area of one material and extending over the outer surface of the pouring part which in the vicinity of the indicator provides part of an area of a different material. The indicator has a predetermined breaking location (85) or a connection with the pouring part which cannot be reconnected and, on first opening the closure unit it irreversibly brought from a first attitude or position into a second attitude or position.

  • Patent number: 5350568
Abstract: An apparatus for sterilizing and breaking score lines on cartons prior to filling includes a spraying assembly for spraying sterilizing solution into the interior of the carton and a score line breaking assembly that breaks the score lines on the upstanding walls of the carton. The spraying assembly and the score line breaking assembly are located at the same station within a filling machine so that both operations can be performed simultaneously. The spray assembly includes a movably mounted spray head that is provided with a spray nozzle. The score line breaking assembly includes a breaker member that is operatively connected to a drive assembly for driving the breaker member into contacting relation with the upper portion of the upstanding walls of a carton in order to urge the upstanding walls of the carton inwardly and thereby break the score lines on the carton walls.

  • Patent number: 5285955
Abstract: A carton has an openable bellows folded top comprising opposed side panels (30, 32) and front (34) and rear (28) panels folded in and sealed between the side panels. The panels are sealed together to close the top in a liquid tight manner. The top-forming front panel has an upper sub-panel comprising a central portion (44) having an upper free edge for defining the rim of a pull-out pouring spout and first and second flanking portions (46, 48) of unequal width lying each on a respective side of the central portion. The central portion is of a lesser height than the flanking portions and is not sealed on its interior face to the overlying side panels or to the rear panel in sealing the top. A reliable seal is formed but there is no obstacle to the pulling out of the pouring spout once the wing portions have been peeled apart.

  • Patent number: 5258162
Abstract: A method of producing a gaseous, hydrogen peroxide-containing sterilization fluid displaying good, uniform sterilization properties is disclosed. The method includes vaporizing liquefied hydrogen peroxide by injecting the liquefied hydrogen peroxide intermittently in finely-divided form into an air current which serves as a vaporization agent, wherein the air current is kept at a constant or insignificantly varying elevated vaporization temperature. An even vaporization temperature of the air current is ensured because the air, prior to vaporization, is heated by heat exchange with a heating element having a large mass or thermal capacity and a large heat exchange surface area which is kept at the desired elevated temperature by regulated energy supplied to the heating element. During breaks in vaporization between the intermittent injection of the liquefied hydrogen peroxide, the heat exchange surface area is heated with the aid of heat stored in the heating element.

  • Patent number: 5255842
Abstract: A packaging container is manufactured through fold forming, vacuum forming, injection molding or other processing to shape a plastically deformable, flexible material, comprising a tubular container body with two longitudinal edges which delimit between them a mainly flat container wall. In order to prevent deformation and/or cracking of the packaging container with normal handling of the side walls, the packaging container is provided with reinforcing elements formed through plastic deformation of the wall material in the region of the longitudinal edges. The reinforcing elements strengthen and stiffen the container and enable it to be conveniently gripped with the hand without the risk of the edges and/or the adjacent side walls being cracked or deformed.

  • Patent number: 5255491
Abstract: Apparatus for filling crates with packages is disclosed. The crates have hinged sides. The apparatus unfolds the sides of a crate and places the packages in the crate between the upright sides. The filled crates are transported on a conveyor to a bander. In the bander, a flexible band is applied around the outside of the upright sides. The banded crates are stacked by the apparatus with the bottom of the upper crate resting on the top edge of the upright sides of the lower crate. The banded and stacked crates may be transported horizontally while stacked.

  • Patent number: 5255494
Abstract: A process for forming an easy-opening arrangement for gable-top cartons is described. A tape is applied to the inside of the pouring spout in order to stiffen the panels, while reducing the force required to separate the thermoplastic seal. The tape is bonded to the thermoplastic surface layer of the carton by an adhesive. During the hot air heating of the carton top prior to sealing, the area where the tape is located is not exposed to the hot air. During closing of the sealing jaws, surfaces on the opposed faces of the sealing jaw urge the adhesive into the space above the edge of the pouring spout to form an impermeable seal. The location of the tape on the carton blank and the apparatus for heating and sealing the carton are also described.

  • Patent number: 5232720
Abstract: In a method for the preparation of cheese for distribution, milk is concentrated to a dry matter content corresponding to a desired dry matter content of finished cheese through the separation of whey. The concentrated milk is mixed with additives including a substance capable of forming carbon dioxide upon mixing with lactic acid bacteria occurring naturally in milk. When the concentrated milk/additive mixture is packaged into distribution-ready packagings in which it coagulates to form cheese, the carbon dioxide forms tubular passages in the cheese.
