  • Emulsion process for sulfolene and sulfolane products

    Abstract: Sulfolene, a typical conjugated diene cyclic sulfone, is prepared by emulsifying butadiene in water in the presence of an antioxidant, and thereafter reacting the emulsion with sulfur dioxide under high pressure, for a period sufficient to complete reaction with the butadiene, whereby yields approaching quantitative are obtained.
