Patent number: 4823386Abstract: An addressable cable television system includes a transmission cable for transmitting a plurality of television signals driven onto the cable from a head end thereof and a plurality of multiple subscriber controllers coupled to the cable for controlling reception of television signals by a plurality of subscribers associated with each of the multiple subscriber controllers. Each of the multiple subscriber controllers includes a plurality of programmable frequency converters, each of which is coupled by a drop cable to the antenna of a television receiver within the subscriber's home. Authorization signals are transmitted from the head end of the cable to the plurality of multiple subscriber controllers for indicating which of the plurality of television signals a particular subscriber is authorized to receive. Each subscriber is provided with channel request circuitry for transmitting a channel request over the drop cable to the associated multiple subscriber controller.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1987Date of Patent: April 18, 1989Assignee: Texscan CorporationInventors: Lewis D. Patent number: 4641115Abstract: Radio frequency chokes for use in combining and separating radio frequency signals and single phase AC power in the equipment used in cable transmission and distribution systems. The radio frequency chokes include a conductor wound on a magnetic core to form a primary winding upon which first and second swamping circuits are mounted. Each of the swamping circuits include a secondary winding with a resistor connected across the ends thereof with the swamping circuits effectively dampening parasitic resonances in the primary winding which occur in the frequeny range of from about 5 MHz to at least 800 MHz.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1984Date of Patent: February 3, 1987Assignee: Texscan CorporationInventor: Peter D. Patent number: 4308497Abstract: A peak detector circuit to be used in conjunction with an RF tunable volt meter is disclosed which charges a capacitor to a voltage level proportional to the amplitude of an incoming signal and then provides an accurate output signal, for driving a meter, the value of this signal being proportional to the voltage on the capacitor. The accuracy of the meter indicator reading is virtually identical for a particular amplitude regardless of whether the incoming signal is modulated or unmodulated (CW).Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1979Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: Texscan CorporationInventor: Gregg S. Patent number: 4226495Abstract: A cable system subscriber tap equipped with a rotating center conductor seizure apparatus for mechanically and electrically seizing the center conductor of a coaxial cable. The improved seizure apparatus provides a rotating clamp held within an insulating structure mounted in the tap adjacent each of the orthogonally arranged pairs of cable access ports, the seizure clamp being rotatable between orthogonal positions within its insulating structure to alternately seize the center conductor of a coaxial cable inserted through either one of the pair of access ports without diassembly of the clamp or seizure apparatus. The improved clamp provides a nonshear seizure of the center conductor that is both quickly and easily changed in the field. It further includes a conductive, spiral spring contact held within a countersunk axial bore in the clamp and rotatable therewith while maintaining mechanical and electrical connection to the contact pin of a printed circuit board.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1979Date of Patent: October 7, 1980Assignee: Texscan CorporationInventors: Robert J. Patent number: 4107632Abstract: An attenuator element, for high frequency electrical signals, at a characteristic impedance such as 50 ohms. One or more distributed resistance regions are interposed between an input and an output and are coupled to a ground pad. The impedance of the distributed resistance portion or portions is higher than the desired 50 ohms and additional input and output resistances, nondistributed, are interposed between the input pad and the ground pad and between the output pad and the ground pad to bring the effective impedance at the input and output to the desired characteristic impedance level. Utilizing the nondistributed resistances at input and output increases the power capability of the attenuator element and also results in a larger size for the distributed resistance region or regions, providing less critical tolerances for producing the distributed resistance regions.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1976Date of Patent: August 15, 1978Assignee: Texscan CorporationInventor: William P. Patent number: 4062609Abstract: A spring contact element is soldered to the end section of a plate holder hub in a high frequency tuneable cavity. The spring contact extends outwardly transverse to the shaft's principle direction and terminates in a plurality of radially extending contact fingers inclined toward and in contact with a wall of the cavity at the end of the hub. Attachment of the spring contact electrically at the plate holder hub and consequent moving contact between the cavity wall and the spring contact member at a circumference considerably larger than that at the hub provides reduced current densities in the vicinity of the moving contact between the wall and the spring contact and consequently considerably reduced power loss at high frequencies above 100 MHz.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1976Date of Patent: December 13, 1977Assignee: Texscan CorporationInventor: Bruce G.
