  • Publication number: 20230404935
Abstract: Methods for manufacturing drug delivery systems are provided. The drug delivery systems may include a substrate coated with at least one polymer and at least one active compound. The substrate may include yarns, yarn precursors, threads, filaments, fibers, and/or other suitable substrates. The methods may include applying a solution including a monomer and an active compound on the substrate. The methods may also include exposing the solution and the substrate to UV light to initiate polymerization of the solution. The substrate is further configured into a reversibly removable patch or section to deliver active compounds to a user. The garments, patches, and sections are configured to provide an amount of active even after repeated uses, wears, applications, and/or launderings and further provide for replacement.

  • Publication number: 20230338301
Abstract: Disclosed herein are delivery systems including coated and uncoated yarns, yarn precursors, threads, fibers, and other substrates for the constant or near-constant release of active compounds, as well as methods for manufacturing such delivery systems. The yarns, yarn precursors, threads, fibers, and other substrates can include a cross-linked hydrophobic elastomer and an active compound. One or more coatings that are impermeable or substantially impermeable to the active compound may partially or fully occlude the yarn or substrate to control release rates of the active compound. The delivery systems may be used in a variety of applications, including the making of articles of clothing, textiles, and fabrics, and may be used in methods of treating various conditions and diseases.

  • Publication number: 20140271863
Abstract: The present disclosure is in the field of controlled release delivery of actives (e.g., drug-delivery, cosmeceutics, alternative medicine) though from an unusual and novel delivery vehicle: personal clothing. Means are disclosed for producing controlled-release systems well-suited not only for affixation to fabrics—e.g., clothing, bedding—but also for maintenance of active throughout washing cycles including hot-wash laundry cycles. Some embodiments comprise a material comprising a unique combination of the thermoresponsive polymer poly-N-isopropylacrylamide, crosslinked and water-swollen in the form of a hydrogel, with embedded thin platelet-shaped solid crystals, drug-solubilizing microparticles, and a drug or other active that is released at ambient or body temperature, but only slowly in warm or hot water.
