Abstract: Disclosed herein are various embodiments of computer-implemented methods and systems for parsing information from messages containing a standardized electronic document format, such as a continuity of care document (“CCD”), and for generating referrals and other documents using data parsed from the messages and/or standardized electronic document format. In some embodiments, a message containing a CCD may be received, the CCD and the message may be parsed to extract information (e.g., patient information), the patient information may be mapped into a document template, and an electronic document containing mapped referral parameters may be generated.

For example, a result metric for a physician is based on a value metric, a quality metric, and/or a quantity metric. The value metric, quality metric, and/or quantity metric may all be received from different sources. The result metric may be displayed on a chart, or the result metric may be utilized for determining referral recommendations for a physician. The result metric may be displayed as a physician indicator on the chart. An insight for the physician may also be determined from the result metric. The insight may be based on the location of the physician indicator on the chart, and the insight may be represented by the color or other visual attribute of the physician indicator. For referral recommendations, the result metric may be used to adjust the rank of a physician in a referral search result.

The physician profile database stores physician profiles, each of which contain information associated with a physician. The system further includes a physician referral application which is hosted at least partially on a server and electronically accessible over at least one network system to a primary care physician device and a specialist physician device. The physician referral application is configured to facilitate a referral of a patient between the primary care physician device and the specialist physician device, and to allow a user of at least one of the primary care physician device and the specialist physician device to search for physicians based on information contained in the physician profiles. At least a portion of the physician profiles contains information relating to insurance plans accepted by particular physicians.

The composite physician would have equivalent or similar job function(s) as well as patient population. The composite physician enables a comprehensive “apple to apple” comparison with the particular physician, giving meaning to and facilitating the usefulness of performance evaluation results.
