  • Patent number: 4099665
Abstract: A reclosable carton having opposing side and end walls, the upper portions of the end walls being displaceable inwardly so that the uppermost edges of the side walls may be juxtaposed to form a tapered top closure, a closure flap being hingedly connected to the uppermost edge of one of the side walls, the closure flap being foldable over the uppermost edge of the opposite side wall and releasably secured in the folded over condition to form a tight reclosure. When provided with a liner, the upper end of the liner extends above the uppermost edges of the side walls, and is pinched therebetween when the edges of the side walls are juxtaposed, the folding over of the closure flap serving to automatically enforce the folding of the liner mouth over the uppermost edge of the opposite side wall, thereby providing a tight reclosure for the liner as an incident of reclosing the carton.

  • Patent number: 4083486
Abstract: A carton end closure in which an inner pair of closure flaps is provided with score lines extending parallel to and in close proximity to the inner edges of the closure flaps, the score lines defining grooves in the outer surfaces of the flaps, the inner flaps also being provided with trough defining debossed areas, preferably of triangular configuration, extending from the outer ends of the score lines to the inner corner edges of the inner flaps, a full width intermediate closure flap adapted to overlie the innermost flaps, the intermediate flap having score lines formed therein positioned to mate with the score lines in the inner flaps, so that when the flaps are infolded with a thin layer of adhesive interposed between the inner and intermediate flaps and sealing pressure applied, increments of adhesive will be forced into the troughs to form plugs which close and seal the corner edges of the end closure.

  • Patent number: 4083447
Abstract: A knock-down display carton having a tubular body formed from opposing body panels hingedly connected together along their opposite side edges, the carton being formed from a flat-folded blank which may be composed entirely of paperboard or a composite blank having a paperboard body panel and an opposing flexible plastic body panel, the structure having at least a bottom end closure hingedly connected to one end of the paperboard panel, said end closure comprising a flap member adapted to be initially juxtaposed to the inner surface of the body panel to which it is hingedly connected, the flap member being scored to define inner and outer flap parts, the outer flap part being displaceable inwardly to provide a self-sustaining cradle-like support for an article packaged in the carton.

  • Patent number: 4063983
Abstract: Apparatus and method for heat sealing a moving tubular liner or the like wherein the area of the liner to be sealed is repeatedly contacted by an opposing pair of elongated sealing elements mounted for movement in orbital paths relative to each other and to the liner passing therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4063403
Abstract: Apparatus for automatically closing cartons having self-sealing reclosable top closures adapted, when closed, to lie within the confines of the carton bodies, the end closures having opposing pairs of sealing flaps adapted to be juxtaposed in face-to-face contacting relation, preferably with the mouths of carton liners interposed therebetween, the juxtaposed sealing flaps and liner mouths being displaceable downwardly to close the cartons and thereafter displaceable upwardly to reopen the cartons, the apparatus comprising a series of continuously moving carriages which receive and advance the openended cartons in a path of travel, the cartons being first acted upon by sets of folding fingers which concurrently infold the leading and trailing end closure flaps and the projecting ends of the liners, whereupon sweep means act to juxtapose the opposing pairs of sealing flaps with the liners interposed therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4051992
Abstract: A tubular display container having a body and end caps, the body being formed from a knocked-down flat-folded blank having a paperboard panel and a flexible plastic panel, the paperboard panel having attachment flaps hingedly connected to its opposite side edges to which the opposite side edges of the plastic panel are secured, the blank upon being erected to tubular configuration having correspondingly configured end caps snugly received in its opposite ends, the end caps preferably being provided with one or more annular ridges adapted to coact with one or more ridge defining score lines in the paperboard panel to releasably lock the end caps in place.

  • Patent number: 4032060
Abstract: A rectangular carton having a self-sealing reclosable end closure which may be used with or without a liner, the end closure being adapted to lie within the confines of the carton body and having an opposing pair of vertically disposed sealing flaps biased into face-to-face contacting relation by an opposing pair of end closure flaps extending downwardly and inwardly from the carton body walls to which they are hingedly connected, the opposing pair of end closure flaps having shoulders at their opposite end edges engaged by downwardly and inwardly folded flap members hingedly connected to the remaining pair of carton body walls, the closure flaps being displaceable to open the carton by pulling upwardly on the juxtaposed sealing flaps and reclosable by juxtaposing the sealing flaps and displacing them downwardly to lie within the confines of the carton body.

  • Patent number: 3981432
Abstract: A tightly sealed carton structure wherein an opposing pair of innermost end closure flaps are hingedly connected to the carton body walls along lines of articulation defining inwardly projecting ridges, the innermost closure flaps each comprising first and second flap parts hingedly connected together with the second flap part reversely folded and adhesively secured to the undersurface of the first part to form a double thickness reinforcing flap, the second flap part being of a length such that its free end edge coincides with the projecting ridge of the line of articulation connecting the flap to the carton body, the free end edge of the second flap part being in wedging engagement with the ridge defining line of articulation when the double thickness flap is infolded at right angles to the carton body wall, thereby providing an essentially rigid planar supporting surface over which the remaining end closure flaps may be folded and tightly sealed; the second flap parts preferably have laterally projecting e
