Publication number: 20200315996Abstract: Niclosamide is an effective therapeutic medicament for the treatment of endometriosis. Niclosamide treatment can reduce the size of endometriotic lesions and reduce cell proliferation in the lesions. Niclosamide treatment can result in the inhibition of proteins and genes associated with inflammatory signaling, including those associated with NF?B and STAT3 activation, but without altering the expression of steroid hormone receptors. Niclosamide can be effective in reducing the growth of endometriotic lesions in female mice without impairing their ability to become pregnant and without negative effect on gestation and offspring. The invention herein is useful in treating symptoms associated with endometriosis, such as reducing the growth of lesions of the endometrium, without disrupting normal reproductive function in females. The invention also relates to derivatives of niclosamide having improved solubility and enhanced efficacy.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 26, 2017Publication date: October 8, 2020Applicant: Board of Trustees, Southern Illinois UniversityInventors: Kanako Hayashi, James MACLEAN, II, Mandy KING

Patent number: 10464886Abstract: A heavy-atom derivative of CHCA, a primary matrix molecule for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS), is synthesized and purified. This new matrix molecule ?-cyano-4-hydroxy-3-iodocinnamic acid (CHICA) is characterized by 1H NMR and mass spectrometry. CHICA is shown to increase MALDI-MS yield for the test analytes human angiotensin II and sex pheromone inhibitor as compared to both CHCA and an alternative heavy-atom CHCA derivative matrix. An optimal CHICA matrix concentration is determined to be 4 mg/mL. Analyte ion yield is shown to be comparable for CHICA and CHCA for analyte concentrations below 0.001 mg/mL. For analyte concentrations above this threshold, use of CHICA resulted in higher analyte yield and significantly lower relative standard deviation.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2018Date of Patent: November 5, 2019Assignee: Board of Trustees of Southern Illinois UniversityInventors: Kristopher M Kirmess, Gary R Kinsel, Kyle Newton Plunkett

Patent number: 10240910Abstract: Systems and methods for compressive image sensor techniques based on sparse measurement matrices are disclosed. A method to perform compressive sensing (CS) measurement operations for image sensors limits pixel summation to be within neighboring pixels and hence dramatically simplifies CS image sensor circuits and reduces their power consumption while providing better image quality compared to conventional random measurement matrix based methods. A sparse measurement matrix is applied to pixel data to generate a desired number of summation groups, each summation group consisting of outputs from an equal number of pixel cells. Each pair of summation groups contains the same number of shared outputs from pixel cells. From the summation groups, an image captured by the pixel cells is recovered.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 2017Date of Patent: March 26, 2019Assignee: Board of Trustees of Southern Illinois University on Behalf of Southern Illinois University CarbondaleInventors: Stefan Leitner, Haibo Wang, Spyros Tragoudas
