Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring the infiltration flow rate into the passenger compartment of a moving motor vehicle includes a controlled source of a distinct, miscible gas such as carbon dioxide (CO2) a plurality of sensors disposed about the compartment to continuously monitor the concentration of such miscible gas over time and a multi-channel data storage device which discretely stores the concentration data from such plurality of sensors for later analysis and computation. The decay rate of the miscible gas concentration is a function of the infiltration/exfiltration rate.

Abstract: Mesoporous hexagonal, cubic, lamellar, wormhole, or cellular foam aluminosilicates, gallosilicates and titanosilicates derived from protozeolitic seeds using an ionic structure directing agent are described. The silicon and aluminum, gallium or titanium centers in the structures are stable so that the framework of the structure does not collapse when heated in the presence of water or water vapor (steam). The steam stable compositions can be used as catalysts for hydrocarbon conversions, including the fluidized bed catalytic cracking and the hydrocracking of petroleum oils, and other reactions of organic compounds.

Abstract: Compositions comprising a herbicide wherein it is desired that the compound not be retained by the plant foliage, and a repellant adjuvant, wherein the repellant modifies the surface properties of the composition so that retention of the composition on foliage of a cultivated plant is reduced are described. In particular, the herbicide composition comprises a repellant adjuvant that is an aqueous solution of an alkyltrialkoxysilane such as methyltrimethoxysilane and a water soluble silane coupling agent such as N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane or an aqueous solution of an organosiliconate such as sodium methyl siliconate. Methods are described for using these compositions to prevent weeds without injury to cultivated plants, which plants include crop plants, food plants, turfgrass, ornamental plants, and garden plants.

Abstract: A method and bioreactor (10) apparatus is described for maintaining cells in a culture medium containing gas or liquid aphrons. A preferred microbubble generator (42, 42A) of a gas which is necessary for maintaining the cells to produce plant described chemicals is described. Bioparticles (11) containing magnetically susceptible particles are provided in a column (12) surrounded by solenoids (13, 14, 14A) which act to hold the bioparticles in position in the column. Preferably, one of the solenoids with a magnetically susceptible screen (24) acts as a valve to allow a portion of the bioparticles to be removed from the column.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process for the direct synthesis of high melting polymers made from dimeric cyclic esters. In particular, the present invention provides a process for synthesis of polylactic acid (PLA) from racemic materials such as racemic lactide and polymandelide from mandelide. The process further provides racemic metal organic ligand catalysts such as racemic salbinap that catalyzes the polymerization of racemic dimeric cyclic ester monomers to a polylactide stereocomplex. Polymandelide and mixed dimeric cyclic esters are also prepared in the presence of low amounts of water.

Abstract: A family of isostructural compounds have been prepared having the general formula AnPbmBinQ2n+m. These compounds possess a NaCl lattice type structure as well as low thermal conductivity and controlled electrical conductivity. Furthermore, the electrical properties can be controlled by varying the values for n and m. These isostructural compounds can be used for semiconductor applications such as detectors, lasers and photovoltaic cells. These compounds also have enhanced thermoelectric properties making them excellent semiconductor materials for fabrication of thermoelectric devices.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for collaboratively generating characteristic data regarding at least one characteristic of a component. A querying ontological data structure is provided for structuring characteristic data transmitted across the network. A querying communicator which is connected to the network generates and structures based upon the querying ontological structure a first query which regards a first characteristic of the component and wherein the first query is to be sent across the network. The first component characteristic communicator which is connected to the network receives via the network the generated first query from the querying communicator. A first component characteristic determinator which is connected to the first characteristic communicator determines first characteristic data regarding the first characteristic of the component based upon the first query.
