Abstract: Diagnostic methods relating to a cardiac ventricular dysfunction are provided. In some embodiments, the diagnostic method is a method of diagnosing diastolic dysfunction in the absence of systolic dysfunction in a subject. The method comprises assaying a sample obtained from the subject for evidence of activation of renin-angiontensin system (RAS), evidence of oxidative stress, a level of adiponectin, or a combination thereof, wherein, when there is a lack of evidence of RAS activation, a lack of evidence of oxidative stress, a reduction in the level of adiponectin, or a combination thereof, as compared to a control subject, the subject is diagnosed with diastolic dysfunction in the absence of systolic dysfunction. Also provided are methods of diagnosing a type of cardiac ventricular dysfunction, methods of determining a therapeutic regimen for a subject suffering from a cardiac ventricular dysfunction, and methods of treating diastolic dysfunction in the absence of systolic dysfunction.

  • Patent number: 8486843
Abstract: A method of forming a nanoscale three-dimensional pattern in a porous semiconductor includes providing a film comprising a semiconductor material and defining a nanoscale metal pattern on the film, where the metal pattern has at least one lateral dimension of about 100 nm or less in size. Semiconductor material is removed from below the nanoscale metal pattern to create trenches in the film having a depth-to-width aspect ratio of at least about 10:1, while pores are formed in remaining portions of the film adjacent to the trenches. A three-dimensional pattern having at least one nanoscale dimension is thus formed in a porous semiconductor, which may be porous silicon. The method can be extended to form self-integrated porous low-k dielectric insulators with copper interconnects, and may also facilitate wafer level chip scale packaging integration.

  • Patent number: 7208928
Abstract: A power converter for coupling an energy source to a load device comprising a selectively coupled output stage to deliver energy from an energy source to a load device, a controller coupled to the output stage, an output stage, a capacitive element coupled to the output terminals, a rectifying element, and a switch responsive to a control signal from the controller. The rectifying element and switch are coupled to the inductive and capacitive elements. The controller is responsive to input signals for generating the control signal to open the switch in a first state and close the switch in a second state. The input signals to the controller produce one or more output voltages across the output terminals, an input voltage across the input terminals, a selectable reference voltage and a feedback signal measured with respect to the inductive element.

  • Publication number: 20060257362
Abstract: Compositions and methods of preventing or treating a breast cancer are disclosed. The composition and method can utilize an endothelin B agonist and a chemotherapeutic agent as active ingredients to treat a solid tumor in mammals, including humans. Alternatively, the composition and method can utilize an endothelin B antagonist and an optional angiogenesis inhibitor to treat a solid tumor in mammals, including humans.
