Patent number: 5224787Abstract: A cosmetics applicator comprises a rod having a threaded portion on the distal end of the rod, and characterized by a plurality of feed channels extending along the length of the rod and transected the threads. The space between the transecting threads and the portion of the feed channel lying below the depth of the threads carries an additional reservoir of cosmetics, and comb points are formed at the tips of the transecting threads for better separating eyelashes. The threaded cosmetics applicator with feed channels is particularly well adapted for applying mid-weight thixotropic mascaras to eyelashes.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1992Date of Patent: July 6, 1993Assignee: The Bridgeport Metal Goods Manufacturing Co.Inventor: Martin M. Patent number: 5190389Abstract: A cosmetics container includes a bottle for holding liquid cosmetics and a cap having extending therefrom a rod and applicator brush for applying the cosmetics. The rod and applicator brush are inserted into the bottle through a resilient wiper comprising a tubular sleeve and an apertured wiper diaphragm. The wiper is mounted in the neck of the bottle by means of a wiper mounting ring, which receives and holds the wiper and snap-fits into the bottle neck. The size of the wiper mounting ring may be varied to fit into various size bottle necks without altering the wiper/applicator/cosmetics combination. The wiper and wiper mounting ring are assembled together prior to insertion into the bottle, so that they can be inspected prior to final assembly.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1991Date of Patent: March 2, 1993Assignee: The Bridgeport Metal Goods Manufacturing Co.Inventor: Martin M. Patent number: 4792251Abstract: A lipstick container having an attractive noncircular form includes a unique operating mechanism for reciprocating a cup member adapted to hold a mass of lipstick. The operating mechanism includes a friction ring which is fitted on the outer body member whereby a constant swivel torque is required to opereate the mechanism through the length of its stroke. The friction ring creates a smoothly operating, luxurious feeling mechanism, limits relative axial movement or "shuck" between the inner and outer body members, and eliminates the need for a bottom pair of lock extension slots.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1986Date of Patent: December 20, 1988Assignee: Bridgeport Metal Goods Manufacturing Co.Inventor: Kenneth F. Patent number: 4579134Abstract: A lipstick container comprising a cylinder having a rotatable knob on one end and an opening at the opposite end. The cylinder is comprised of an opaque lower section and a transparent shield which extends from the top of the lower section to the cylinder opening. A lipstick is movably disposed inside the cylinder. The relative position of the lipstick with respect to the cylinder is controlled by rotation of the knob, and for application, the lipstick is moved so that a top portion of the lipstick extends outside the cylinder. For storage, the lipstick is selectively moved to its lowest position so that all of the lipstick is inside the cylinder below the level of the opening. In this storage position, the top portion of the lipstick remains above the lower section of the cylinder and, therefore, is visible through the transparent shield. In this storage position, a transparent cover is put on over the cylinder and the shield protects the lipstick from coming in contact with the cover.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1982Date of Patent: April 1, 1986Assignee: The Bridgeport Metal Goods Manufacturing Co.Inventor: Arthur H. Patent number: 4527575Abstract: A cosmetics applicator brush includes a ribbed flexer at the distal portion of the rod. Bristles extend outwardly from the flexer, some of the bristles being supported on the ribs and some being supported in grooves between the ribs. When the brush is loaded with cosmetics and drawn through a wiper diaphragm of the cosmetics container, the bristles on the larger diameter ribs are wiped relatively clean and the bristles in the grooves are subjected to less or no wiping action and carry a substantial amount of cosmetics for application. The relatively clean bristles extending from the ribs provide good combing action of the applied cosmetics. The ribs of a particular flexer may be differently sized, shaped, or offset in order to provide flexers having a wide variety of contours. In some flexers, the ribs define a longitudinal notch mounting a foam pad for extra cosmetics carrying capability.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1983Date of Patent: July 9, 1985Assignee: The Bridgeport Metal Goods Manufacturing Co.Inventor: Martin M.
