Abstract: A pump is installed in a drill string above the bit and both the bit and pump are connected to the outputs of a differential gearing located therebetween. The circulation of drilling fluids is the reverse from the conventional and by operating a valve in the drill string the torque applied to the bit and pump can be controlled. Useful for drilling weak formations.
Abstract: Apparatus suitable for the assessment of lubricants for the slides of machine tools, comprises a fixed slide carrier block, a moving slide block, and a drive block moving parallel to the slides at constant speed, under the action of a motor. The drive block carries a bracket with a lever which makes it possible to load the moving slide block and has a compressible elastic element to push the moving slide block. A comparator dial and an electric displacement sensor are connected to a recorder, so as to display and record the relative movements of the fixed and moving slide blocks.
Abstract: The polyurea thickener of a polyurea grease is prepared from:(a) a mixture of aliphatic and aromatic monoamines(b) one or more aromatic di-isocyanates(c) a diamine which is 4,17-dioxaeicosandiamine-1,20 and which has the formulaH.sub.2 N--(CH.sub.2).sub.3 --O--(CH.sub.2).sub.12 --O--(CH.sub.2).sub.3 --NH.sub.
Abstract: A solar energy collector comprising a transparent container containing a particulate or fibrous radiation absorbing material and having a transparent outer cover through which a heat conveying fluid can pass before passing through the container.
Abstract: Anthracite packed oil water coalescers are treated with certain polymers, e.g. polybutene polyamines to improve their performance when dealing with sea water - oil emulsions.

Abstract: A burner has a flow tube along which passes a high pressure fuel gas from a Coanda nozzle at one end of the tube. The other end of the tube is divergent in the manner of a venturi in the gas flow direction. A peripheral ring is situated at the divergent outlet end which separates off the fuel gas and entrained air layer passing along the interior wall of the flow tube from the central gas flow and deflects this fuel fuel/air layer outwardly from the central gas flow.
Abstract: Seapack. Pack which can be attached to the deck of a support vessel comprises a deflated anti-pollution boom comprising a continuous water inflatable water chamber, a driven roller which can pull the barrier aboard the vessel and cause its deflation, means to attach a first end of the barrier to the vessel, means to inflate the gas chamber and means to inflate the water chamber.
Abstract: Hydrogen transfer catalyst comprises (a) as support a graphite containing carbon having (1) a basal plane surface area of at least 100 m.sup.2 /g, (2) a ratio of BET surface area to basal plane surface area of not more than 5:1 and (3) a ratio of basal plane surface area to edge surface area of at least 5:1 and (b) as active component, 0.01 to 10% by weight, of the total weight of catalyst of a platinum group metal disposed thereon. The catalyst is particularly suitable for reforming.

Abstract: A biocidal composition suitable for use in marine anti-fouling coatings is a water-insoluble mineral having an internal pore structure, containing, within the pores a biocidal compound effective against marine growth. Preferred minerals are zeolites, particularly synthetic faujasites, and porous silicas; preferred biocidal compounds are organo-tin compounds. The compounds may be incorporated into anti-fouling paints e.g. epoxy, epoxy-coal tar and chlorinated rubber paints or wax coatings.

Abstract: The air/water figure of eight cross-section boom has an additional water chamber along side the original. The extra water boom has some buoyancy due to internal small air tube and thus forms a weir. Surface oil and water collects between the two water tubes and is recovered.
Abstract: A process for producing unsaturated hydrocarbons by oligomerizing a C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 monoolefin in the presence of a gallium catalyst deposited on a support.
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of producing olefins from a wax distillate feed by cracking the feed in the presence of steam at a catalyst temperature of between 650.degree. and 900.degree. C over a manganese catalyst.

Abstract: Oil-containing effluent is treated by passing it through a gravity separator and obtaining (a) a wet oil fraction, (b) an aqueous fraction of reduced oil content and (c) a wet oily sludge. Fractions (a) and (c) are then combined and passed through a pressure filter so that solids are retained and oil and water passed through. The oil and water are then passed to a separator and a reusable oil fraction is recovered and a water fraction which is returned to the gravity separator.
Abstract: Blends comprising (1) a rubber component containing polychloroprene and a defined amount of EPDM, (2) hardened extract, (3) a vulcanization agent.

Abstract: A blend of chlorosulphonated polyethylene elastomer and hardened extract obtained by blowing a gas containing free oxygen at elevated temperatures into a solvent extract of petroleum vacuum distillate or a deasphalted petroleum residue which extract boils above 350.degree. C at atmospheric pressure and contains a major proportion of aromatic hydrocarbons, said hardened extract having a saturated hydrocarbon content of not more than 10% by weight. The hardened extract serves not only to extend the chlorosulfonated polyethylene, but also improves certain physical properties of sheets made from the blend.
