Abstract: A sunscreen composition containing a UV-A dibenzoylmethane derivative, such as butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane (avobenzone), a UV-B methoxycinnamate derivative, such as ethylhexyl-p-methoxycinnamate (PARSOL MCX), and a barium compound stabilizer for the composition, such as barium sulfate. The barium compound is quite effective in photostabilizing both the dibenzoylmethane derivative UV-A filter compound and the methoxycinnamate UV-B filter compound in the composition.
