  • Patent number: 4743232
Abstract: A package assembly for a plastic film bandage includes a plastic film bandage having skin adhesive on one side thereof, with a support sheet removably attached to the other side of the bandage and extending beyond the edge of the bandage in at least one area. A tube typically communicates across an end of the bandage with a portion of the tube being positioned against the one side thereof. Means are provided for anchoring the tube into the above-described position. Peel-away protection sheet means are releasably attached to the bandage, covering the one side of the bandage and that portion of the tube which is positioned against the one side. Hinge means are provided, attaching the support sheet and at least a portion of said peel-away protection sheet means at a peripheral position spaced from the bandage. Thus, upon opening, at least a portion of the protection sheet means may be removed from the bandage and may serve as a grippable extension of the support sheet as the bandage is applied to a patient.

  • Patent number: 4402691
Abstract: An aseptic protective barrier device around sterile medical solution administration conduit connections is provided by an aseptic connection barrier system and method which reduces patient inconvenience, mess and chance of leakage and minimizes the risk of touch contamination during application while ensuring continuous antiseptic activity around the entire connection site. A barrier device is comprised of a contoured plastic housing formed by mating cavity halves joined along a hinge line, an absorbent member contained within the interior of the housing and a sealing tab attached to one of the housing halves for holding them together when folded along the hinge line. In use, the absorbent member has antiseptic solution applied to it and the housing is positioned to surround the connection site and compress the absorbent member and sealed in place to form a surrounding protective barrier and seal.

  • Patent number: 4353367
Abstract: A lightweight disposable container is described for in situ sterilization of a portion of a flexible tube such as the exposed end of a permanently embedded peritoneal catheter. The container has a basin and means for retaining the catheter portion to be sterilized in the vicinity of the basin bottom for submergence in a sterilizing solution in the basin. In one embodiment, a plurality of projections which are an integrally molded part of the container are spaced from each other at inlets to frictionally clamp the catheter in a gap formed between the projections. In another embodiment, the projections are formed in a hinged lid so that when the lid is closed the catheter or other tubing used in the procedure may be retained submerged under the solution. Several forms and locations for projections are disclosed.
