Abstract: The present invention provides improved elastomeric interference films which are readily coextruded, have improved transparency, and have greater mismatches of refractive indices than those of the prior art. An improved elastomeric optical interference film comprising at least 100 alternating layers of at least first and second divergent substantially transparent elastomeric polymeric materials is provided. Adjacent layers of the first and second polymeric materials differ from each other in refractive index by at least about 0.05, and the thickness of the layers is from about 0.05 to about 0.5 micrometers. Stretching the films results in different wavelengths of light being reflected.

Abstract: High purity ethylenediaminetetra(methylenephosphonic acid) and 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetra(methylenephosphonic acid) are prepared by dissolving the aminomethylenephosphonic acid in an aqueous base, acidifying with a mineral acid at an elevated temperature to precipitate the crystals, maintaining the solution at an elevated temperature for a period of time sufficient to assure crystallization, cooling to a lower temperature and maintaining at that temperature for a time sufficient to precipitate the crystals and filtering the resulting crystals at that temperature, washing the crystals with water and recovering the desired high purity aminophosphonic acid. The ethylenediaminetetra(methylenephosphonic acid) is obtained in a purer state during its synthesis if the crystals are filtered hot without prior cooling.

Abstract: The present invention is a polymeric composition with improved extrudability comprising a vinylidene chloride interpolymer and a Group IIA alkaline-earth hydroxyphosphate, which is incorporated with the vinylidene chloride interpolymer by advance addition, polymer slurry addition or, finally, by dry blending addition. The Group IIA alkaline-earth hydroxyphosphate will be present in an amount of between about 0.01 to about 5 weight percent, said weight percents being based on the total weight of the polymeric composition.

Abstract: Compositions comprising a free radical sensitive compound and a thermally stable substituted diazene which upon exposure to electromagnetic radiation is convertible to a thermally unstable substituted diazene may be formed and processed utilizing thermally intense techniques and thereafter the free radically initiated changes initiated by exposing the substituted diazene to light and heat.
Abstract: Apparatus and method for on-line coupled liquid chromatography and gas chromatography analysis includes a retention gap which allows injection of a substantial volume of sample-carrying eluent and concentrates bands, obviating adverse effects on the resolution or peak shape of the components of interest. The retention gap is used to simultaneously receive and vaporize liquid solvent in a manner highly suitable for purposes of gas chromatographically separating solutes of interest dispersed in the liquid chromatography solvent.

Abstract: This invention relates to polyisocyanate-based polymers prepared by reacting a polyisocyanate with a polyol composition containing a polyester polyol and a poly(alkylene carbonate) polyol. The presence of the poly(alkylene carbonate) polyol improves the semi-conductive properties of the polymer without requiring the use of semi-conductive fillers or ionizable salts.
Abstract: A process for forming a plastic article, such as a container, involves heating at least one or more layers individually to temperatures below the melting point, immediately stacking two or more layers while retaining the peripheral portion of the layers and immediately forming the stacked layers into a plastic article which is then allowed to cool. Alternatively after stacking the layers, the stacked layers are immediately forged into a preform in a heated and lubricated mold and immediately thermoformed into a plastic article, which is then allowed to cool. The layers may be diverse (i.e. material, shape, molecular weight, additives, etc.) or similar and stacked so as to provide a layered angular orientation.
