  • Patent number: 4621113
Abstract: Polyphase, transparent, polyblock, oligomer-free, segmented urethane polymers having molecular weights of from about 100,000 to about 200,000 and being eminently suited for use in medical devices such as blood bags, etc., are deriveable from chain extenders, free diisocyanate molecules and prepolymers consisting essentially of linear molecules which are terminated at each end by isocyanate groups. The prepolymer molecules consist of n branched, polyether glycol residues joined through intervening carbamate groups with (n+1) diisocyanate residues, n ranging from about 1 to 4 and having an average value of less than 2. The polyether glycols have molecular weights of from about 1000 to about 6000 and are methylol-terminated chains of C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkylene oxide units. Importantly, the final polymers are free of domain crystallinity.

  • Patent number: 4619669
Abstract: A method is disclosed for upgrading run-of-the-mine (ROM) lignites to remove the gangue (clays, rock etc.) which form ash when the lignite is burned. The unique features of the process, a combination of unit operations in a specified sequence, result in less loss of combustible fuel value without hydrodegradation (the production of a large volume of fines) normally associated with contact of the lignite with water as in pipeline transport of lignite.

  • Patent number: 4618727
Abstract: Nitro-isopropenyldiphenyl ethers are provided which can serve as a useful source of known monomer intermediates or as intermediates for the preparation of nitro-haloisopropyl substituted diphenyl ethers. The latter have been discovered to act as facile alkylating agents with phenols providing nitro-p-hydroxyphenylisopropyl substituted diphenyl ethers. When the latter compounds are reduced there are obtained the corresponding amino-p-hydroxyphenylisopropyl substituted diphenyl ethers. The polymerization of this last class of compounds with acid halides provides polyamide-esters. The polymers can be used in the manufacture of such articles as tubing, hose, bellows hose, and the like.

  • Patent number: 4618076
Abstract: A dual dispensing bottle includes two upwardly extending necks having a trigger sprayer attached to one neck and a frangible orifice creating section integrally formed in the other neck. The frangible section is easily removed by twisting and doubles as a plug for the created orifice. The frangible twist-off section enables the consumer to dispense a large amount of product independently of and without removing the trigger sprayer. Since the frangible section is an integral part of the bottle, the easy open/reclose feature is obtained with negligible increase in the manufacturing cost of the bottle.
