    Abstract: A door lock has a flush-mountable body. A forwardly facing recess is defined by the body. A paddle-type handle is pivotally carried by the body and is movable between a nested position within the body recess and an operating position. A spring-projected slide bolt is carried on the back of the body and is movable between projected and retracted positions. A key-controlled disconnect linkage is provided for selectively connecting and disconnecting the handle and the bolt. The disconnect linkage includes a rotatably-mounted disconnect member which extends longitudinally relative to the bolt. Interengageable formations are provided on the bolt and the disconnect member. The interengageable formations are brought into and out of driving engagement by the movement of a key-operated locking member. When the disconnect linkage drivingly connects the handle and the bolt, movement of the handle from its nested position to an operating position will cause corresponding retracting movement of the bolt.

When the disconnect linkage drivingly connects the actuator and the bolt, movement of the actuator from its normal position to an operating position will cause corresponding unlatching movement of the bolt.

    Abstract: A system for reinforcing a rock formation, such as in mining or tunneling operations, wherein an elongated bolt is anchored in a blind drill hole in the rock formation by both a mechanical expansion anchor and a resin grouting mix. The invention is particularly directed to novel means which prevent relative rotation of the bolt and anchor in one direction and allow relative rotation in the opposite direction, whereby a conventional, two-compartment resin cartridge can be broken and its contents mixed while rotating the bolt and anchor in the first direction, and the anchor expanded to tension the bolt by reversing the direction of rotation before the resin mix hardens. The novel means comprise a collar element which is affixed to the end of the bolt above the expansion anchor and cooperatively engages a stop means on the anchor in only one direction of bolt rotation. A number of alternative means are disclosed for affixing the collar to the bolt.

    Abstract: An expansion anchor for a mine roof support bolt having a one-piece shell, a tapered nut and a strap for maintaining the shell and nut in assembled relation. The shell includes a circular collar having four fingers extending therefrom in a generally cylindrical configuration with an open slot between each pair of adjacent fingers. A pair of solid elements formed integrally with the rest of the shell extend between pair of adjacent fingers to bridge the slots on opposite sides of the shell. The strap extends over the top of the nut, through the slots and has bent-over end portions which are engaged under the solid elements bridging the slots.

The handle is movable between nested and projected positions. A bolt actuator extends from the handle into a receiving formation provided on the bolt for drivingly interconnecting the handle and the bolt to effect retracting and extending movements of the bolt when the handle is moved toward its projected and retracted positions. A torsion coil spring is interposed between the body member and the handle, and serves the several functions of biasing the handle toward its nested position, maintaining play-free engagement between the handle and the body member when the handle is nested, and maintaining a play-free driving connection between the handle and the bolt when the handle is projected.

    Abstract: An electronic lock system including a key coder, a key or set of keys and a lock or set of locks. The key coder provides an operator-selectable key code having a new code portion and current code portion to each key. The key receives the selected key code from the key coder and retains it for use with the lock or set of locks, one at a time. When the lock receives the key code from the key, a comparison is made in the lock between the current code portion of the key code and a lock code contained within a memory in the lock. If the current code portion of the key code compares the lock code, the lock is actuated and the lock code in the memory is replaced by the new code portion of the key code. If the new code portion of the key code is identical to the current code portion of the key code, the key will actuate the lock and will continue to do so until the lock is once actuated by a key having a different new code portion of the key code.

    Abstract: A coil spring having fixedly attached washer members at each end encircles a mine roof bolt and is retained between radially projecting ears on the bolt and an expansion anchor threaded on the bolt. The washer member which engages the bolt ears is slotted to receive the ears so that rotation of the bolt is transmitted to the spring and the other washer member. The washer member at the other end has a pair of stepped shoulders on the face opposite the spring which engages the lower end of the anchor shell. The latter is also provided with a pair of stepped shoulders which cooperate with those on the washer member to transmit rotation from the bolt to the anchor in one direction and allow relative rotation in the other. In this manner, a resin grouting cartridge placed in the drill hole ahead of the anchor may be broken and its contents mixed by rotation of the bolt and anchor as a common unit, and the anchor expanded to tension the bolt as the resin sets by rotation in the opposite direction.

    Abstract: A rock formation, such as the roof of a mine tunnel, is reinforced by use of the apparatus of the invention to provide an anchor for a rock bolt which is tensioned to hold a support plate or similar structure in firm engagement with the face of the rock structure. The apparatus includes an elongated bar threadedly engaged with one end of an open, cylindrical coupling member, the other end of which is threaded to receive the rock bolt. One or more fixed members, preferably in the form of integral, die-formed ears, extend outwardly from the bolt shank a predetermined distance from the end of the threaded portion. Prior to threading into the coupling member the end of the bolt is inserted through an open, cylindrical collar having an internal radius greater than that of the bolt shank but less than the radial distance by which the fixed members project outwardly therefrom.

Rotation of the tool is transmitted to the collar and bar to break a resin cartridge within a blind drill hole in the rock formation and mix the contents thereof. Upon hardening of the resin mixture about the bar, the installation tool is withdrawn and the rock bolt carrying a roof support plate is threaded into the anchored collar and tensioned to the desired degree.

The housing has a first set of aligned holes formed through the front and back walls, and a second set of aligned holes formed through the side walls. A lock actuator mechanism is journaled by the first set of holes and includes an actuator movable between locked and unlocked positions. A rotary latch bolt mechanism is journaled by the second set of holes and includes a latch bolt movable between latched and unlatched positions. The lock actuator mechanism includes a first spring which biases an actuator toward its locked position. The latch bolt mechanism includes a second spring which biases the latch bolt toward its unlatched position. The lock actuator mechanism includes a cam with is interengageable with the latch bolt to retain the latch bolt in its latched position until the lock actuator is moved to its unlocked position.

    Abstract: A mine roof bolt and expansion anchor are provided with means preventing relative rotation of the two in a direction tending to withdraw the bolt from the tapered nut of the anchor while allowing relative rotation in the opposite direction, whereby the bolt may be rotationally advanced into the nut as the anchor remains rotationally stationary to effect expansion of the anchor shell within a drill hole. A conventional, two-compartment resin cartridge is inserted into the drill hole ahead of the end of the bolt carrying the anchor. The cartridge is ruptured and the contents thereof mixed by advance of the bolt and anchor while rotating in the direction preventing relative rotation. Immediately thereafter the bolt is rotated in the opposite direction, thereby expanding the anchor and firmly securing it in the hole. The bolt may then be immediately loaded without regard to the setting time of the resin. Three embodiments are disclosed of the means providing the aforementioned relative rotational action.

    Abstract: A low silhouette closure control mechanism especially designed for a swinging or pivoted door of a highway vehicle, such as, a truck or trailer. The mechanism includes a plurality of cam-type latch or bolt members welded to an elongated shallow channel member and suitably spaced therealong. The channel member is rotatably connected by pintle pins to hinge members fixed to the pivoted closure or door adjacent to its non-pivoted or free edge, that is, the edge of the door remote from the edge hinged to the door frame of the vehicle body. The latch members connected to the channel member cooperate with discrete keeper members connected to the adjacent side of the door frame or to the adjacent side of the second door if employed with double doors. The pivotal axis for the channel member which carries the latch members is located at or substantially at the free edge of the door thus locating it close to the keeper members.

The closure has a security plate attached to the inside wall thereof, which security plate has rearwardly extending flanges on two sides thereof with a portion between said sides having a flange with an elongate tongue portion adapted to extend through a slot in the channel in the box such that a latch bar of a lock can nest in an opening in the tongue behind the channel for locking the closure in place on the box. The other end portion of the security plate has an offset ledge spaced from the wall of the closure such that the ledge is positioned behind one edge of the opening in the box which, in combination with the lock, prevents removal of the closure from the box.

    Abstract: A flush-mountable, key-controlled, handle-operated door lock is provided with an automatic self-locking linkage for permitting the handle to move once, but only once, out of a nested position after a key control has been operated to "cock" the linkage. Once the linkage has been cocked, the handle can be moved one time out of and returned to its nested position, whereafter the linkage operates to retain the handle in its nested position until the key control is again operated to cock the linkage. The automatic latching linkage includes a housing assembly, a pair of cams, and a pair of springs. A feature of the automatic latching linkage is that its several components can be assembled easily on an existing, in-service lock to provide the existing lock with a one-trip automatic locking capability. The latching linkage components are assembled by installing the components one at a time in an essentially stacked arrangement, one atop the other.

A handle is secured to the central portion for rotating the shaft to bring the cam members into and out of latching engagement with the keeper members. The handle is moveable between a nested position wherein the handle is nested within a recess defined by the pan-shaped housing, and a projecting position wherein the handle projects forwardly from the recess. A latch mechanism is carried by the housing and includes a latch member mounted for pivotal movement between latched and unlatched positions.

    Abstract: A door fastening apparatus, particularly well suited for fastening in closed positions the rear and side doors of truck bodies, includes an elongate tubular shaft rotatable to position a plurality of latch members in door locking engagement with a plurality of keeper members. A first latch member is rigidly permanently secured to the shaft near one end of the shaft. A second latch member is secured to the shaft near its opposite end by a bolted connection. The bolted connection permits the truck body manufacturer to cut the shaft to length depending on the height of the truck, whereafter the second latch member may be fastened in place without any need for welding. The second latch member is mounted on the outside of the shaft. A plug member is inserted into the sawed-off, open end of the tubular shaft. The second latch member and the plug member captivate the shaft wall.

    Abstract: A detent system is provided for releasably retaining a pair of relatively movable members of a lock assembly or other mechanism in one or more predetermined positions. The members are movable relative to each other to successively present a series of contiguous surface portions on one of the members in spaced, side-by-side relationship with a selected part of the other member. A hole is formed through the part, and a detent element is movably carried in the hole. The detent element has a rounded tip which is projectable from the hole for engaging the contiguous surface portions as the members move relative to each other. A detent receiving formation is provided at a location along the contiguous surface portions and is adapted to receive the rounded tip of the detent element when the members are in a predetermined relative position.
