Patent number: 5526573Abstract: A device for circumscribing selectively both circles and also ellipses of variable proportions includes a housing in which is rotatably mounted an armature. The armature is constrained to move on two axes disposed at right angles to one another, so as to enable elliptical shapes to be generated. One such axis is provided by a rectilinear channel in the base of the device, in which is engaged a follower operatively attached to the armature; the other axis is provided by a rectilinear slot formed through the cover of the device. A hub is engaged in the cover slot and is assembled with the armature; it can be moved to any selected position along a rectilinear axis of the armature without disassembly, and can be secured in position by tightening of a clamping mechanism. In one position the axes of rotation of the hub and the armature are aligned, to thereby cause the device to circumscribe a circle; in other positions the axes are offset, thereby conditioning the device for circumscribing ellipses.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1995Date of Patent: June 18, 1996Assignee: The Fletcher-Terry CompanyInventors: Alan R. Peters, Vincent T. Kozyrski

Patent number: 5425295Abstract: A push-pull DIY cutter for sheet material, such as mat and foam board, utilizes a blade-mounting handle that is pivotable from a null position in both of two opposite directions, so as to alternatively bring into operative position a blade element spaced to either side of the null position center line. The blade is mounted for lateral shifting, so as to cause the elements on its opposite ends to protrude to a greater or lesser extent from either side of the cutting head. Indicia are provided along the lower boundary of the head to facilitate adjustment of the blade for optimal protrusion of the blade element that is to be utilized in any given instance.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1993Date of Patent: June 20, 1995Assignee: The Fletcher-Terry CompanyInventors: Alan R. Patent number: 5423626Abstract: A clamp assembly for use in constructing a picture frame consists of two superposed, separate plates. One plate has threaded apertures for the receipt of jacking screws, and the other has recesses for engaging the tips of the screws, the axes of which are offset when the lateral edges of the plates are in mutual registry; adjacent interior edges of the plates are serrated for increased gripping power. Advancement of the screw separates and shifts the plates to move the serrated edges toward one another, thus applying lateral as well as a transverse clamping and gripping forces upon the frame members.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1993Date of Patent: June 13, 1995Assignee: The Fletcher-Terry CompanyInventor: Alan R.
