Abstract: A system and method for detecting partial discharges or arcing in wiring or cables is disclosed. The system employs a high-voltage AC power source to generate a high-voltage low-current AC waveform, which is propagated through a selected wire, which in turn, produces the return signal. The return signal is processed using a signal processor and the analyzed for indications of the occurrence of a partial discharge. The method detects damage to a selected wire by utilizing high voltage, low current AC waveforms to induce partial discharges in a controlled manner and detecting a return signal resulting from the discharge.

Abstract: A method for applying a bond coat on a metal-based substrate is described. A slurry which contains braze material and a volatile component is deposited on the substrate. The slurry can also include bond coat material. Alternatively, the bond coat material can be applied afterward, in solid form or in the form of a second slurry. The slurry and bond coat are then dried and fused to the substrate. A repair technique using this slurry is also described, along with related compositions and articles.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a collimator mandrel having variable attenuation characteristics is presented. The manufacturing process includes the placement of a layer of attenuating material on a core of base material. The layer of attenuating material is relatively thin and varies in thickness circumferentially around the core. The collimator mandrel may be manufactured by placing a cast about a core of non-attenuating material, filling a void between the cast and the core with an attenuating material, allowing the material to cure, and removing the cast from the assembly.

Abstract: A method and system for determining a concentration level of NOx in an exhaust stream from a combustion source. The method comprises capturing sample gas from the exhaust stream using a sampling device. NO2 in the sample gas is converted to NO by passing the sample gas through a catalytic NO2 converter. The method also comprises removing water from the sample gas by passing the sample gas through a dryer and determining a sample gas NO concentration level. The step of converting NO2 is performed at a temperature above the dew point temperature of the sample gas.
Abstract: A method of predicting component crack behavior in a nuclear reactor provides access to a crack growth behavior model over a global network. A user inputs water chemistry and material characteristics of a particular nuclear reactor and can perform crack growth rate predictions by accessing the behavior model over the computer network. A crack growth prediction profile or crack growth based result is output over the network according to an analysis by the behavior model.

Abstract: An inseparable assembly includes a body having a plurality of plies stacked in face to face relation and bonded together, wherein each of the plurality of plies includes a ceramic matrix composite material having a first predetermined ductility. The assembly further includes a reinforcement including a metallic wire mesh bonded to said body so that at least a portion of the metallic wire mesh is positioned between two adjacent plies in the body. The metallic wire mesh has a second predetermined ductility greater than the first ductility.
Abstract: A method and system of integrating a software application over a network include receiving an order for a software system from a user at a server over the network. The process further includes configuring the user's system over the network, and installing the software system over the network. A start up operation may also be performed over the network. Abstract: Method for retrofitting an electric machine to reduce temperature rise therein. The method allows for removing at least a portion of an originally assembled coil support on a spider structure of the machine. The originally assembled coil support is configured to allow only axial flow to cooling air from a plurality of cooling vents in the armature of the machine. The method further allows for mounting a new coil support on the spider structure. The new coil support is configured to provide axial and radial routing to cooling air passing from the plurality of cooling vents. The air routed radially by the new coil support passes proximate the coil end turns and enables a reduction of temperature rise in the machine.

Abstract: A system serves to prevent or remove particle build-up in flowing systems, wherein a fluid flows in a conduit to a valve body. A mechanical shock is periodically generated in the valve body that is of a sufficient magnitude to disturb any particle attachment in the conduit or the valve body. The shock may be generated via direct impact with the valve body or passively using the fluid flowing in the conduit.
