  • Publication number: 20220392576
Abstract: A method of detecting and identifying pathogens in a sample comprising a plurality of genetic sequences. A plurality of electronic sequence reads corresponding to the plurality of genetic sequences is received and sampled to form a sample set. The sample set is iteratively and electronically compared to a plurality of pathogen sequences to create a detection group, which populates a putative genome data structure. A distance score is measured between each electronic sequence read of the sampled set to each pathogen sequence of the putative genome data structure. A hit score is calculated by comparing the distance score to a threshold value. A plurality of clusters of the electronic sequence reads of the sample set is formed to maximize the cluster hit score and to minimize a difference in distance scores of the cluster. A respective taxonomic group assigned to electronic reads of the sample set after clustering is displayed.

  • Patent number: 11487021
Abstract: A system for determining a position of a receiver from as few as two or three transmitters. The receiver may be stationary or moving with a known velocity. The system includes a receiver clock having a clock bias and a clock drift relative to a reference clock and may also include a motion sensor. A decoder receives transmitted signals from a number of transmitters and determine pseudo-ranges and transmitter frequencies therefrom and a processing unit receives the pseudo-ranges, the transmitter frequencies and the receiver velocity and determines the position of the receiver therefrom. When only two transmitters are available, the position of the receiver is determined dependent upon a known receiver clock drift. The system may also determine clock bias and, when three or more transmitters are available, receiver clock drift. The processing unit uses ranging and Doppler equations in combination, and may also use a measured velocity.

  • Patent number: 11470693
Abstract: An electrode is embedded in a piece of ceramic material having a population of conduction band electrons. Applying a voltage bias to the electrode causes electrons to flow towards or away from the electrode to form a positively charged sheath either a distance apart from or adjacent the electrode, depending the polarity of the bias. The electron flow also forms a negatively charged sheath lying opposite the positively charged sheath, and an electrically neutral region lying between the two sheaths. Electromagnetic radiation impinging the ceramic material heats the ceramic where the radiation is absorbed by the electron population. As the incident radiation is absorbed in proportion to the electron density, heating is increased in the negatively charged sheath, relative to the other parts of the ceramic material. The location of heating is controlled by controlling the magnitude and polarity of the voltage bias.

  • Publication number: 20220171224
Abstract: A transparent device for use in optical applications, and methods for using and manufacturing the device are disclosed. The device generally requires several layers, including (i) a first layer comprising a transparent conductive oxide (such as indium tin oxide (ITO)), (ii) a second layer comprising a transparent semiconductor (e.g., a pn-heterojunction or a pn-homojunction), the second layer having a surface facing the first layer, (iii) a third layer comprising a liquid crystal (such as E7), the third layer having a surface facing the second layer, and (iv) a fourth layer comprising either a second transparent conductive oxide or a second transparent semiconductor, the fourth layer having a surface facing the third layer. When light illuminates a surface of the transparent metal oxide pn-heterojunction or transparent metal oxide pn-homojunction, it induces photoconductivity, modifying the surface charges.

  • Publication number: 20220153896
Abstract: Shape-programmable liquid crystal elastomers. The shape-programmable liquid crystal elastomers being synthesized by filling an alignment cell with liquid crystal monomers. The liquid crystal monomers align to a surface of the alignment cell and then are polymerized with a dithiol chain transfer agent. The alignment cell is configured to impose a director orientation on a portion of the shape-programmable liquid crystal elastomer. For some embodiments, liquid crystal elastomer laminates are prepared by arranging a plurality of liquid crystal elastomers such that a director orientation of each liquid crystal elastomer of the plurality is in registered alignment with an adjacent liquid crystal elastomer of the plurality. The arrangement is secured and the plurality of liquid crystal elastomers cured.
