  • Patent number: 11694895
Abstract: A method of making a crystallographically-oriented metallic film with a two-dimensional crystal layer, comprising the steps of providing a metal film on a substrate, transferring a two-dimensional crystal layer onto the metal film and forming a two-dimensional crystal layer on metal film complex, heating the two-dimensional crystal layer on metal film complex, and forming a crystallographically-oriented metallic film with a two-dimensional crystal layer. A crystallographically-oriented metallic film with a two-dimensional crystal layer, comprising a substrate, a metal film on the substrate, a two-dimensional crystal layer on the metal film on the substrate, and a tunable microstructure within the porous metal/two-dimensional crystal layer on the substrate, wherein the metal film has crystallographic registry to the two-dimensional crystal layer.

  • Patent number: 11473983
Abstract: A dynamic Brillouin fiber sensor that is immune to fluctuations in the power, frequency, or polarizing state of the pump and probe beams is described herein. A new measurand that combines information from the complex Stokes and anti-Stokes interactions is provided to extract the absolute Brillouin frequency shift while rejecting the majority of noise sources that may limit the performance of current slope-assisted Brillouin optical time domain analysis systems.

  • Patent number: 11455758
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for identification and tracking of large semi-closed eddies (e.g., oceanic eddies). For example, embodiments of the present disclosure provide systems and methods for detecting a cyclonic or anticyclonic eddy in the ocean and determining its size, shape, and intensity given a single input field. In an embodiment, this input is a two-dimensional (2D) gridded field of Sea Surface Height Anomaly (SSHA) or Absolute Dynamic Topography (ADT), both of which can be determined from satellite based observations. Embodiments of the present disclosure are more accurate and computationally efficient than traditional methods and further provide high adaptability that will enable additional improvements as advances are made in satellite-based observations.

  • Patent number: 11371785
Abstract: A cooling system for a cold spray nozzle or a thermal spray barrel and a fabrication method thereof are provided. The cooling system includes a sleeve with cooling fins that encapsulate a spray nozzle or barrel to enable heat transfer from the nozzle or barrel to the fins and then to the external ambient environment. The sleeve may optionally include one or more channels with cooling tubes to enable enhanced cooling with a cooling medium flowing through the tubes and across the fins.

  • Patent number: 11325335
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method and apparatus for forming pellets in a non-ambient environment such as a strong magnetic field. The apparatus includes a die body, a die bottom, a short push pin, a long push pin, a press tube, and an extended push pin. A powder is loaded into the die body, which is then positioned in the non-ambient environment, and the powder allowed to equilibrate. A pellet is then formed by pressing on the extended push pin while the powder is in the non-ambient environment.
