Patent number: 5777014Abstract: A plasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin composition and method of plasticizing and decreasing the hydrophobicity of said PVC resin for adherence of aqueous coating compositions, such as water-based inks, by incorporating into the PVC resin a polymeric plasticizer for PVC, a monomeric diacid plasticizer, comprising primarily a C.sub.5, C.sub.4 or C.sub.3 diacid plasticizer, or mixtures, in a ratio of polymeric/monomeric plasticizers of 5/95 to 95/5, preferably 90/10 to 60/40, and at least about 0.1%, based on the weight of the PVC resin, of a metal salt additive, wherein the metal salt is an oxide or a hydroxide and has an oxidation state of plus two, three or four, preferably calcium oxide and/or calcium hydroxide. The monomeric/polymeric plasticizer combination together with the metal salt additive(s) unexpectedly decreases the hydrophobicity of the PVC surface for strong adherence of water-based inks and coatings thereto.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1996Date of Patent: July 7, 1998Assignee: The C.P. Patent number: 5480505Abstract: A metal pipe and method of forming the same with an integrally formed liner for use in corrosive and abrasive environment is disclosed. The liner is comprised of a relatively thick polyethylene which is thermally bonded to the metal pipe. An intermediate co-extruded polymer layer of ethylene acrylic acid and a polyethylene/ethylene acrylic acid blend is applied to the metal pipe to facilitate thermal bonding. The intermediate layer is applied to the sheet metal in a pre-treatment process prior to roll forming ribs into the sheet metal. The polyethylene liner is applied after the ribs are formed, preferably after the pipe has been formed, to provide a smooth, hydraulically efficient surface which is resistent to the corrosive action of sulfuric acid and the like encountered in sanitary applications, as well as abrasion caused by the flow of water-born debris such as dirt and gravel as is encountered in culvert applications.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 1994Date of Patent: January 2, 1996Assignee: W. Patent number: 5454402Abstract: A hydraulically efficient metal pipe particularly adapted for use in storm drain and sanitary sewer applications which is adapted for use with a self-supporting interior inert protective lining. The pipe has a channeled wall defining a plurality of outwardly projecting structural ribs and a hydraulically smooth interior surface. The ribs are preferably of a helical configuration and the channels which are formed interiorly thereof are generally either square or rectangular in cross-section and are open along the interior surface of the pipe. The walls defining the ribs can be tapered inwardly to form triangular-shaped channels so as to define an anchor throughout the length of the pipe for securing thereto a smooth interior lining of corrosion-resistant protective material.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1994Date of Patent: October 3, 1995Assignee: W. Patent number: 5316606Abstract: A metal pipe and method of forming the same with an integrally formed liner for use in corrosive and abrasive environments is disclosed. The liner is comprised of a relatively thick high density polyethylene which is thermally bonded to the metal pipe. An intermediate co-extruded polymer layer of ethylene acrylic acid and a polyethylene/ethylene acrylic acid blend is applied to the metal pipe facilitate thermal bonding. The intermediate layer is applied to the sheet metal in a pre-treatment process prior to roll forming ribs into the sheet metal. The polyethylene liner is applied after the ribs are formed To provide a smooth, hydraulically efficient surface which is resistent to the corrosive action of sulfuric acid and the like encountered in sanitary applications, as well as abrasion caused by the flow of water-born debris such as dirt and gravel as is encountered in culvert applications. Patent number: 5096206Abstract: A pipe joint sealer for providing a watertight joint in metal pipe, cast concrete pipe, plastic pipe and the like is disclosed. The pipe joint sealer prevents fine dirt and sand from entering the pipe through the joint. The pipe joint sealer is comprised of an absorbent material such as low density, open cell, resilient foam which is saturated with a quantity of water reactive urethane prepolymer. The urethane prepolymer saturated foam is sandwiched between two layers of a geotextile fabric such as polypropylene which permit moisture to come into contact with the urethane prepolymer saturated foam. Moisture causes the urethane prepolymer saturated foam to expand and thereby form a dynamic watertight seal. Drying of the urethane prepolymer saturated foam causes it to shrink back toward its original volume. Thereafter, the pipe joint sealer of the present invention forms a new watertight seal each time it is wetted.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1990Date of Patent: March 17, 1992Assignee: W. E. Patent number: 4978447Abstract: An apparatus for cleaning algae and debris from a water treatment tank includes a carriage that is mounted for movement while extending over a clean water flow channel of the treatment tank. A motor drives the carriage around the tank while a guide maintains the carriage in the proper position for cleaning. A series of brush assemblies are connected to a frame of the carriage. The brushes of these assemblies are adapted to engage and clean the weir, baffle, spillway and clear water flow channel of the tank as the carriage moves. Additionally, a directional controller automatically controls the direction of operation of the motor and hence the direction of movement of the carriage. The directional controller also includes a sensor adapted to sense any obstructions, such as a service walkway, extending across the movement path of the carriage. Upon sensing an obstruction, the direction of movement of the carriage is reversed.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1990Date of Patent: December 18, 1990Assignee: Ford W. Hall CompanyInventor: Ford W. Patent number: 4182844Abstract: An energy-conserving method for the manufacture of polyaminoamides is described which involves the reaction of a polycarboxylate ester with a mono and/or polyalkylene polyamine in the presence of 0 to about 5% by weight water by heating approximately stoichiometric proportions of the two reactants to the temperature at which the amidification reaction becomes self-sustaining, then utilizing the exothermic heat of reaction to sustain the reaction at a desired temperature. During the reaction, the heat of reaction is used to vaporize an alcohol reaction product and remove the alcohol from the reaction vessel and from further contact with the reaction vessel contents.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1978Date of Patent: January 8, 1980Assignee: The C.P. Patent number: 4162155Abstract: Agriculturally-active aqueous compositions containing an agriculturally-active organic substance and water are stabilized by the addition to the system of a minor amount of N-acetyl-p-aminophenol. The N-acetyl-p-aminophenol is relatively non-toxic and is degradable, thereby making it particularly attractive for agricultural use in view of its high degree of effectiveness as a stabilizer. Advantageous agriculturally-active organic substances are the compounds having carbon to carbon unsaturation, particularly those having aliphatic unsaturation.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1977Date of Patent: July 24, 1979Assignee: Howard Hall & CompanyInventor: David W.
