Patent number: 9855222Abstract: Topical sanitizers including alcohol-based gels, alcohol-based foams, alcohol-free foams, liquid soaps, alcohol-based wipes, and alcohol-based sprays include avenanthramides, which is an active component of oats that is beneficial to the skin. The concentration of avenanthramides can be substantially less when considering the use profile of the person using the sanitizers. Many healthcare workers sanitize their hands dozens of times a day. An effective dose of avenanthramides can be delivered to the skin even when the concentration in avenanthramides is relatively low due to the repeated application of the sanitizers during the day. In addition, a lower concentration of avenanthramides may be used to maintain healthy skin compared to a higher concentration that may be used to repair damaged skin.
