Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media are provided for conducting an election. In one exemplary embodiment, there is provided a method for ensuring integrity of an electronic ballot. The method can include creating electronic ballots for voters based on votes received from the voters; digitally signing the electronic ballots; storing the signed electronic ballots; retrieving the signed electronic ballots from storage; verifying the digital signatures on the retrieved electronic ballots; and presenting the voters with validation pages derived from the retrieved electronic ballots, the validation pages including a user interface element for the voters to confirm that the retrieved electronic ballots accurately reflect their vote.

Abstract: A shipping label is operable to be applied to a package and includes a single label ply. The single label ply presents longitudinally spaced ends, opposite top and bottom faces extending between the ends, and a generally transverse fold line of weakness spaced between the ends. The label ply is foldable about the fold line to define upper and lower label sections, with the upper label section overlying the lower label section when the label ply is folded, and the top face of the upper label section being operable to receive package address indicia thereon. The upper label section includes a separation line of weakness defining a border portion and a separable central portion. The upper label section includes adhesive applied to the bottom face along at least part of the border portion. The lower label section includes a dividing line of weakness defining a connecting portion and an end portion, with the connecting portion extending between the fold line and dividing line.
Abstract: A method, system, computer medium, and other embodiments for integrating unrelated web services with stand-alone media-based devices are provided. Users can access and control the media-based device conveniently with a web-browser through various portals on the Internet. In an embodiment directed to a single web session, users program the media-based device by clicking on one or more hyperlinks or hypertexts in the form of advertisements of upcoming broadcasts. The advertisements may be web-hosted or sponsored by web portals.
Abstract: A fastener assembly for affixing insulation blankets to a substrate is provided. The fastener assembly includes an attachment member having a construction for affixing to a substrate as well as a first fastener member preferably in the form of a male threaded stud. The fastener assembly further includes a cap fastener. The cap fastener includes a cap member and a second fastener member preferably in the form of a female threaded extension for threadably affixing to the first fastener member. The cap member has an exterior side and an interior side. The cap member's exterior side preferably has a shape for rotation by a tool. Meanwhile, the cap member's interior side has a circular recess concentric with the cap fastener's female threaded extension. When assembled, the circular recess forms a circular insulating cavity between the cap member and an insulation blanket.

Abstract: A stackable fastener is provided for mounting to a substrate having a non-threaded hole or for affixing to similar fasteners. The stackable fastener includes a body having a central bore, and a force member rotatable within the body's central bore. In addition, the fastener includes a plurality of fingers which extend axially from the fastener's body. Rotation of the force member causes the fingers to extend radially outward to lock within a substrate hole or within the central bore of a similar stackable fastener.

Abstract: An active wing extension includes a body portion substantially parallel to a wing of an aircraft, as if it were an extension of the wing. The body portion is attachable to an aircraft wing and includes multiple controllable airflow modification devices coupled thereto. By virtue of having multiple controllable airflow modification devices, the wing extension is capable of adjusting control surfaces of the multiple controllable airflow modification devices in response to in-flight conditions, to reduce wing loads, improve wing fatigue characteristics, increase range, and/or increase efficiency.
Abstract: A wireless transmission system and method is provided for use in a vehicle having an on-board diagnostic (OBD) system configured to provide vehicle speed data and engine operation status data. A transmission apparatus is interfaceable with the on-board diagnostic system. The transmission apparatus is configured to transmit a wireless signal as specified by Bluetooth criteria. A mobile computing device has an input device, a GPS module, and a wireless transceiver configured to receive the wireless signal in accordance with Bluetooth criteria and determine a signal level thereof. The GPS module is configured to provide GPS data as determined by received GPS signals. The mobile computing device operates in accordance with a method for determining is the mobile computing device is with a driver's seating area and disables the input device if the vehicle speed is at or above a threshold value.
Abstract: Dual interface modules, and methods for manufacturing the same, are described. A substrate layer is provided with at least one dual interface section. At least two first through-holes are formed in the substrate in each dual interface section. A first connection element is arranged in each first through-hole. Each first connection element is connected to a contact pad that is arranged on a first side of the substrate. Each first connection element is connected to a connection pad that is arranged on a second side of the substrate. At least one electronic element is arranged on the second side of the substrate in each dual interface section. Two second through-holes are formed in the substrate in each dual interface section. Two soldering pads with a first side and a second side are arranged on the second side of the substrate layer.
