    Abstract: A resistor assembly and method of assembling a resistor to a coupling, comprises providing a resistor having a first end and a second end, the resistor being tubular in shape and providing a coupling housing having an open end for receiving the first end of the resistor, the coupling housing including a sealing member, a retainer, and a support washer. The retainer is interposed between the support washer and sealing member. The first end of the resistor is inserted into the open end of the coupling housing. The tube is rotated within the coupling housing so that the resistor is in sealing engagement with the sealing member and retained by retaining member.

The resistor apparatus includes a resistor body and a first and second lead wire electrically connected to opposite sides of the core. A gas permeable containment casing substantially encloses the resistor body and is fixed to the lead wires by fasteners, therefore maintaining the containment casing in a position substantially enclosing the resistor body. In the event that the resistor overheats and the resistor body breaks, the containment casing is maintained in a position to contain any pieces of the overheated resistor that break away, while allowing any gasses to escape, therefore preventing explosion of the containment casing and damage to surrounding apparatuses.

    Abstract: A coil assembly is formed by an elastic metal wire helical extension spring coil having convolutions resiliently urged towards each other and held apart by spacers pinched between the convolutions and held there by the spring-back of the convolutions. The spacers can interspace the coil convolutions and be made to extend radially inwardly and outwardly beyond the inside and outside of the coil, so as to radially space the coil from a coil center and the inside of a tubular casing enclosing the coil. In this way a tubular radiant heater can be made by using electric resistance wire to form the coil and making the spacers from refractory insulating material.

    Abstract: A wire-coiling machine has a non-rotating mandrel having a coil-starting portion which declines to a forwardly extending coiling portion. Means revolving about the coil-starting portion continuously feeds and winds under back-tension the wire to be coiled on this coil-starting portion, the latter having a declination and forward extent causing the wire while winding thereon to continuously slide radially downwardly and axially forwardly so as to feed and form coil convolutions on the mandrel's coiling portion while forcing the latter to continuously feed forwardly so as to continuously produce a coil in the form of a non-rotating coil. The mandrel can be very short with a free terminating end from which the non-rotating coil feeds continuously for easy collecting or processing operations.
