  • Patent number: 6780702
Abstract: When InP DHBTs are located in parallel to a crystallographical direction of <011>, there are several advantages in the aspect of device property such as reliability. But, in case of a direction parallel to a general <011>, there exists the limitation in reducing base-collector parasitic capacitance only by collector over-etching technique due to poor lateral-etching characteristic of the InP collector. To overcome such a problem mentioned above and improve device performance, the present invention provides a method of reducing parasitic capacitance using underneath crystallographically selective wet etching, thereby providing a self-alignable, structurally stable device.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an apparatus and method for similarity searches using hyper-rectangle based multidimensional data segmentation. The similarity search apparatus has MBR generation means, first sequence pruning means, second sequence pruning means, and subsequence finding means. The MBR generation means segments a multidimensional data sequence to be partitioned into subsequences, and represents each subsequence by each Minimum Bounding Rectangle (MBR), such that sets of MBRs are generated from the multidimensional data sequence, and the MBR sets are stored in a database. The first sequence pruning means prunes irrelevant data sequences using a distance Dmbr between MBRs extracted from an inputted query sequence and the MBR sets stored in the database in a multidimensional Euclidean space.

  • Patent number: 6775058
Abstract: The present invention discloses a wide band optical amplifier with a common mid-stage device. In the wide band optical amplifier according to the present invention, the signals that enter the amplifier are first split into a couple of sub-band signals. The sub-band signals are amplified independently at different optical amplification sections, but they share a common mid-stage device, which reduces the complexity and the cost of the amplifier. The sub-band signals propagate count-directionally in the common mid-stages device to reduce the nonlinear interactions between the signals in different sub-bands. A wide band optical amplifier incorporating a common mid-stage device with directionality is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20040126108
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for monitoring an optical signal-to-noise ratio in a WDM optical network. The apparatus includes an orthogonal polarization component module for receiving an optical signal and outputting it after removing a signal component thereof at a specific frequency band; and calculation means for measuring both average signal and noise component intensity of the optical signal outputted from the orthogonal polarization component module. By removing a signal component at a specific frequency bandwidth and passing only a noise component through, it is possible to easily measure the noise intensity within a signal bandwidth that cannot be measured in general. A frequency band is set within a signal bandwidth, and the signal intensity is minimized at the set frequency band, so that it is possible to measure the optical signal-to-noise ratio even for a signal whose amplified spontaneous emission noise spectrum is not flat, irrespective of the signal pattern length.
