  • Patent number: 5072911
Abstract: Concrete barrier structures for use in forming holes in concrete slabs or the like can be constructed so as to include a peripheral wall shaped as the frustum of a right circular cone having an upper end and a lower end. A closure is provided to close off the upper end of the peripheral wall. A series of equally spaced, identical upper supports are located on the exterior of this peripheral wall intermediate the ends of this wall. Grooves are provided on the interior of the peripheral wall for accommodating the upper supports on an adjacent, nested barrier structure.

  • Patent number: 5072461
Abstract: A movable fitting member such as a bathtub drain stopper can be constructed so as to be useful with different drain fittings which differ by having post holders with different sized openings into which a guide post can be threaded. Such a movable fitting member is constructed so as to use a body having a sleeve located around a post holder and having an enlarged cavity around the post holder within the body. The guide post used is double ended; one end is threaded into the post holder in a drain fitting and the other end is located within the cavity. A nut is located on this other end; it is sufficiently large so that it cannot pass through the sleeve. As a result of this the body cannot normally be separated from the guide post during the use of the fitting member.

  • Patent number: 5052726
Abstract: A desirable seal structure for use in forming a seal around the exterior of a pipe or the like can be constructed so as to use a retainer member, a compression member, a sealing member located generally within the retainer member and generally between the compression and retainer members and bolts for compressing the retainer and compression members against the sealing member. The compression and retainer members are provided with beveled surfaces which are complementary to corresponding tapered surfaces on the sealing member. The sealing member is shaped so that it will move inwardly when compressed between the compression and retainer members.

  • Patent number: 4961848
Abstract: An improved roof drain cover useful in minimizing the changes of comparatively large amounts of water backing up around the drain can be constructed so as to include primary and secondary rims serving as weirs located on a flange which extends around a centrally positioned grate. The primary rim is formed at the periphery of the flange and integrally therewith, while the secondary rim is formed adjacent the junction of the flange and grate and forms a channel with the grate. Notches are provided in these rims so as to permit water flow through them. The dimensioned rims are so that, as such inorganic particles accumulate against them, lighter organic material such as leaves will be carried by draining water over the rims and up against the grate.

  • Patent number: 4903921
Abstract: The application of stresses which might cause damage to a pipe or tube when the pipe or tube is held by a holder or clam can normally be avoided by using fins on the holder which resiliently engage the pipe and which do not press any sharp edges directly into the periphery of the pipe.

  • Patent number: 4385777
Abstract: An escutcheon component system which fits around a pipe at the point wherein the pipe projects through a wall includes an escutcheon plate and a generally cylindrical insert. At least the periphery of the back side of the escutcheon plate is capable of abutting against the wall. A hole through the escutcheon plate is sized so that a pipe can pass through it. An annular flange extends outwardly from the back side of the escutcheon plate co-cylindrically with the hole. The insert is formed of a flexible material such that it is capable of being compressed and inserted into the interior of the flange. An opening through the center of the insert allows the insert to be passed over the pipe, and when located around the pipe the insert will grip the pipe if the insert is then compressed within the interior of the flange. When the insert is located around the pipe and within the flange frictional forces hold the escutcheon component system to the pipe.

  • Patent number: 4314687
Abstract: A device for suspending plumbing components such as a pipe elbow or a high ear 90 elbow between the studs of a wall and retarding propagation of sound between the plumbing components and the wall has a main body or housing formed of a semi-resilient material which is incapable of transmitting a sound from a first location in this body to a second location also in the body. A first member which attaches to the wall or a strip of plumbers tape extending between the studs is attached to the body at the first location. A second member which attaches to the plumbing components is attached to the body at the second location. The first and second members are connected to the body at their respective locations such that a parallel portion of the first member is parallel with, but is not coplanar with, a parallel portion of the second member.

  • Patent number: 4309007
Abstract: A sound insulating support member for isolating a plumbing pipe or other tubular member from a support surface includes an insert member formed of a material substantially incapable of transmitting sound vibrations and sized to be capable of encircling the pipe or tubular member. The insert member fits within a sleeve member which is formed of a semiresilient material capable of maintaining its shape at rest but capable of being flexed when subjected to a force. Both the sleeve member and the insert member contain a slit. The insert member is retained within the sleeve member such that the slit of the insert member is aligned with the slit of the sleeve member and when both the sleeve and the insert are open the pipe or tubular member can be inserted through the slits and the sleeve and insert close around the pipe or tubular member to cradle the tubular member within the insert which in turn is fixedly held within the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4280305
Abstract: A roof flashing structure for use in sealing the tubes and wires leading to and from a solar collector where said tubes and wires pass through the roof has a generally flat plate with an upstanding housing integrally formed with the plate, both of a rigid material. The flat plate has an opening in it where the housing meets with the plate and the upper end of the housing has an opening wherein a resilient elastomeric sealing member is located. The elastomeric sealing member has an upper surface and a lower surface and includes a plurality of generally circular apertures extending upwardly from the lower surface. Formed with the upper surface over the top of each of the apertures is an upstanding boss which seals the apertures. Within the interior of each of the apertures are a plurality of sealing flanges located one above the other along the length of the aperture between the lower surface and the sealed end.

  • Patent number: 4265058
Abstract: A roof flashing structure of the type having a generally flat plate with an upstanding housing integrally attached thereto can be improved by forming the upmost periphery of said housing such that it has an inner wall and an outer wall with a channel in between these walls. An elastomeric sealing member has a support wall with a plurality of annular pipe sealing flanges extending from said support wall. Also attaching to the support wall is a skirt which extends downward from the annular wall. The skirt is shaped and dimensioned to mimic the shape of the interior of the channel. The skirt is attached to the channel via mechanical locking passageways in conjunction with a thermal bonding. The thermal bond is formed by a process wherein the elastomeric sealing member is molded into the housing using a compatible plastic for the housing and a compatible rubbery material for the sealing member.

  • Patent number: 4215724
Abstract: A sewer backflow preventer is adapted to fit on the top of a sewer cleanout pipe. The sewer backflow preventer has an upstanding pipe which attaches to the upper most end of the sewer cleanout pipe. Projecting radially from the top of the upstanding pipe are a series of rigid spokes which terminate at and attach to a ring. A cap having an impervious side wall and a top integrally formed with the side wall is attached to the ring near the bottom of the cap. Within the interior of the cap and attached between the ring and the bottom of the cap are a series of flexible rubber straps which radiate inwardly toward the center of the cap. Integrally formed with and attached at the ends of the straps is a half sphere. The convex surface of the sphere faces downward and mates with and reversibly seals the opening of the upstanding pipe. When sewage is backed up in the sewer, the half sphere lifts off the top of the upstanding pipe and allows the sewage to discharge to the ambient environment.

  • Patent number: 4160347
Abstract: To form a seal between a roof and a pipe projecting through this roof, it is known to construct roof flashing structures having a flat plate which has a centralized opening and an upstanding tapered housing attached to the flat plate and extending around said opening. Such roof flashing structures can be improved by providing the top of the housing with an annular sealing ring seat which has an external wall formed as an extension of the housing wall, an interior wall, parallel to the exterior wall, and a top wall connecting the exterior and interior walls. These three walls define a channel within the housing. The channel opens in a downward direction toward the plate and a rib on a sealing ring fits into this channel and seats the sealing ring into the sealing ring seat.
