Patents Assigned to The Pelton and Crane Company
  • Patent number: 4254454
Abstract: A self-ventilating, enclosed, lighting device for dental, medical or the like uses having a frame of predetermined configuration with a light source mounted therein, a transparent shield mounted on and covering an open front thereof, and a light reflector mounted on the back and generally covering the open back. Inlet air passages are formed generally at the front of the device and exit air passages are formed generally at the back of the device. Airflow is created by convection heating of the air by the light source to cause an airflow into the lighting device through the inlet air passages, through the interior of the lighting device and around the light source, and out of the lighting device through the exit air passages for cooling the lighting device. The reflector is preferably pivotally mounted on the frame for being moved between an open position for access to the interior of the lighting device and a closed position during use of the lighting device.

  • Patent number: 4254455
Abstract: A reflector for use in a dental, medical or other lighting device wherein light from a light source is reflected thereby in a predetermined pattern for illumination of a desired zone. The reflector is formed of a glass substrate of predetermined shape for reflecting light in a predetermined pattern and has a dichroic coating on the front surface for reflecting a substantial portion of visible light and for allowing infrared and other undesirable energy along with some unreflected visible light to pass therethrough so that cool light only is reflected and a diffuser coating on the rear surface for diffusing light passing through the glass substrate to reduce undesirable glare from the rear of the reflector. The diffuser coating is preferably a ceramic frit.

  • Patent number: 4138815
Abstract: A console unit, particularly for use by a dental assistant, adapted to carry powered handpiece instruments and to provide storage space and working space utilized during the treating of a patient, is characterized by a mobile construction for easy access thereto. A main cabinet portion is provided for containing support apparatus for the powered handpiece instruments and for providing storage space. An upper work surface portion is movably carried by the main cabinet portion and has an upper generally flat working surface area thereon. A powered handpiece instrument storage compartment is secured to and suspended from one side of the upper work surface portion for movement therewith and for removably carrying a plurality of powered handpiece instruments and attached operating flexible hose for easy removal and use.

  • Patent number: 4114274
Abstract: Movable power-operated instrument console and treatment chair apparatus, characterized by being selectively individually or simultaneously movable to desired positions for patient treatment, is provided, generally as follows. A treatment chair includes an occupant supporting assembly, a base assembly, and an elevator assembly including drive mechanisms for raising and lowering the occupant supporting assembly. An instrument console has a tray assembly for carrying instruments and the like, a base assembly, and an elevator assembly including drive mechanisms for raising and lowering the tray assembly. Control mechanisms are connected with both of the drive mechanisms for selectively (1) simultaneously raising or lowering or (2) independently raising or lowering of the treatment chair and the instrument console.

  • Patent number: 4114273
Abstract: A dental or medical handpiece instrument console apparatus, including means for holding, extending and retracting operating flexible hose attached to the instruments, for easy use in over-the-patient positions, as follows. A hollow cabinet, a plurality of handpiece instruments and connecting operating flexible hose positioned within the cabinet in generally U-shaped configurations and in horizontal, parallel positions. Improved, selectively actuatable, extending and retracting mechanisms are provided for the flexible hose including a pulley attached to a cable of a rotatable reel which carries a ratchet wheel engageable by a pawl such that the instrument and hose may be pulled to an extended position and the pawl engaged with the ratchet wheel to lock the hose and instrument in its extended position and which will release the ratchet wheel for retraction of the instrument and hose into the console by a bias when non-use of the instrument is desired.

  • Patent number: 4114275
Abstract: Foot controller apparatus is characterized by providing for remote foot control by a minimum size foot pedal device of the flow of compressed air to an air driven dental handpiece or the like without the necessity of bulky air lines passing through or the incorporation of complicated electrical or mechanical mechanisms in the foot pedal device, as follows. An outwardly biased, depressible foot pedal device includes a diaphragm therein for forming an air sealed chamber which reduces in volume upon depression of the foot pedal device and conveys an air flow through an elongate tube to a diaphragm operated, air modulating, regulator valve positioned away from the foot pedal device and in the compressed air conduit leading to the dental handpiece for pneumatically operating the valve to control the flow of compressed air to the dental handpiece for driving same.

  • Patent number: 4106198
Abstract: A plurality of dental, medical or the like handpiece instruments normally housed in one or more instrument consoles and extensible relative thereto for use are controlled by apparatus which assures safety in use of the handpiece instruments and accommodates control over the functioning of a selected one handpiece instrument from a single common foot operated controller. In a particular environment for this invention, as described more fully hereinafter, flexible hose are respectively attached to a plurality of instrument handpieces and are extensible from a console, which receives the plurality of handpieces, upon selection and removal of corresponding ones of the handpiece instruments. Detectors are provided for sensing the removal of each handpiece instrument from the console, and provision is made for selectively delivering at least one of a plurality of fluids through the flexible hose to each of the plurality of handpieces.
