  • Patent number: 6488908
Abstract: A substrate and a target are disposed within a vacuum chamber, and an oxygen partial pressure within the vacuum chamber is set to 1×10−5 or less. Under this condition, a spinel ferrite thin film selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by the formula AE1+tFe2−2tTMtO4, where AE represents an alkaline earth metal or an alkali metal, TM represents a transition metal and t falls within a range of between 0.2 and 0.6, and compounds represented by the formula Zn1−xCoxFe2O4, where x falls within a range of between 0.2 and 0.7, is deposited on the substrate by laser beam deposition. The particular method makes it possible to provide a spinel ferrite thin film realizing a spin glass state under temperatures around or higher than room temperature and capable of controlling the spin state by light.

  • Patent number: 4596874
Abstract: A nitrone is synthesized from a secondary amine by reacting a compound represented by the following general formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 mean individually a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or aryl group and R.sup.3 denotes an alkyl or aryl group with a peroxide in the presence of a catalyst selected from the group consisting of tungsten compounds, molybdenum compounds, vanadium compounds, titanium compounds, palladium compounds, rhodium compounds, ruthenium compounds and nickel compounds. This process provides the nitrone by one-step oxidation of the secondary amine.

  • Patent number: 4486105
Abstract: In an externally pressurized gas bearing used as a thrust or a journal bearing, the shape of a gap formed therein is selected so that the gas flowing velocity reaches the sound velocity in a predetermined position within the gap and a supersonic gas flow is maintained at the outer edge of the bearing, whereby an increase in supply gas pressure gives rise to a corresponding increase in load capacity and rigidity.

  • Patent number: 4417341
Abstract: A glass laser amplifier having a number of trigger members comprising a number of flash lamps capable of emitting light to pump a laser glass arranged around said laser glass, a number of reflection mirrors for reflecting light from each of said flash lamps against said laser glass, and a number of trigger members each arranged at a side of a flash lamp opposite the reflection mirror with the flash lamp being held therebetween. Deflection of electric current in the flash lamp by the reflection mirrors is eliminated, and local heating of the inner wall of the flash lamp is prevented by the efficient elimination of the current deflection, resulting in an extensive life of the entire assembly.

  • Patent number: 4301369
Abstract: A semiconductor ion emitter for a mass spectrometer, comprises an electrode having semiconductor whiskers provided on the conductive surface of a base. A process for manufacturing such semiconductor ion emitter, includes steps of evaporating gold onto a wire having a diameter of about 60 .mu.m, preheating the coated wire, and supplying a gas containing the semiconductor for growth of the whiskers on the gold plated wire. An apparatus for such process comprises a vacuum vessel for enclosing the wire, means for controllably heating the wire and means for controllably supplying a gas containing the semiconductor into the vacuum vessel.

  • Patent number: 4179557
Abstract: 6-Aminoacylamidopenicillanic acid or 7-aminoacylamidocephalosporanic acids are produced in high yields by acylating 6-aminopenicillanic acid or 7-aminocephalosporanic acid with an amino acid, or a functional equivalent thereof, having its amino group protected with N,N-disubstituted .beta.-keto acid amide, and then removing the protecting group from the resulting protected 6-aminoacylamidopenicillanic acid or protected 7-aminoacylamidocephalosporanic acid by hydrolysis.
