Abstract: Test methods for assessing irritation of portions of skin are provided. The method may include irritating a portion of skin by contacting the portion of skin with a chemical irritant; irritating the portion of skin by physical irritation; and assessing erythema or dryness of the portion of skin after irritating the steps. Alternatively, the method may include irritating a portion of skin with a chemical irritant; irritating the portion of skin by physical irritation; treating the irritated portion of skin by wiping the irritated portion of skin with a test sample; and assessing erythema or dryness of the portion of skin after the wiping step. A method of irritating a portion of skin to assess one of erythema and dryness may include irritating a portion of skin with a chemical irritant and irritating the portion of skin by physical irritation.

Abstract: Peel off device (4) for unwinding a web of material (2) from a stock roll (1), especially for high speed unwinding a web of a thin polymer film or the like, comprising a base (5) associated to the roll (1), a linear guiding device (6) mounted on the base (5), an idler support (7) linearly guided on the base (5) in a direction towards the roll (1), and a pair of idlers (9, 10) for the web (2) to be unwound. The idlers (9, 10) are mounted offset with respect to each other on the idler support (7) to provide for a meandering path of the web between the idlers (9, 10). The axes of rotation (A9, A10) of the idlers (9, 10) are parallel to the bearing axis (A3) of the roll (1). The first idler (9) is pushed towards the roll to maintain a contact force (F) between the first idler (9) and the surface of the roll (1) while the web (2) is peeled off the roll (1).

Abstract: A kit for purifying water comprises a first container for receiving untreated water, and a second container for receiving purified water and having a dispensing spigot. A water purification composition, when mixed with water in the first container, produces partially purified water having solid matter. A first filter held in a filter holder at an upper end of the second container removes the solid matter when the partially purified water is poured from the first container. A second filter in the second container comprises carbon.

Abstract: Granular laundry detergents are formulated with percarbonate bleach and oxidation-sensitive ingredients such as brighteners, enzymes, perfumes and the like. The storage stability of such compositions is improved by the presence of silicate. For example, the tendency of stilbene-type brighteners to form undesirable yellow shades in the presence of percarbonate is diminished by the corporation of silicate materials into the granules.

Abstract: Automatic dishwashing detergents containing N-alkoxy or N-aryloxy polyhydroxy fatty acid amide surfactants which provide not only improved cleaning, but also improved filming and spotting performance on tableware are described. Thus, C.sub.12 -C.sub.14 N-(3-methoxypropyl) glucamide is used in automatic dishwashing compositions which, optionally, can be formulated to be free from chlorine bleach or phosphate builders. Weak builders such as citrate and perborate or percarbonate bleach can be used in the compositions, as can various detersive enzymes.
