Abstract: A novel injectable human amniotic membrane (hAM) matrix to enhance cardiac repair and/or regeneration following myocardial injury (MI) and wound healing has been developed. The invention disclosed herein provides human amniotic membranes isolated from human placenta and engineered to be a thermo-responsible, injectable gel at temperature ranges that fall within body temperature. The ultrasound-guided injection of hAM matrix into a rodent model of myocardial infarction significantly improved cardiac contractility, as measured by ejection fraction (EF), and decreased fibrosis. The disclosure provided herein demonstrates the specific engineering injectable hAM matrices and their efficacy in attenuating degenerative changes in cardiac function following MI, which has broad applications in wound healing and tissue regeneration.

  • Publication number: 20240018030
Abstract: A method and apparatus for fabrication of mirror facesheets that uses a hot thermal forming process, or slumping. Rather than relying on an accurate negative form to slump the glass into, the glass is allowed to slump freely within a support ring that is outside the final required optical diameter of the shell. Such an approach allows for creation of shells over a variety of radii of curvature, simply by changing details of the heating process. However, to create an approximately parabolic shape, an additional force is required. The expected deformation can be modeled to show that a top weight with a given force just outside the optical diameter creates close to the desired shape. Experimental verification has been demonstrated for shells 120 mm in diameter. The forming fixtures and processes can be optimized and scaled to larger facesheets needed for upcoming ASM's.

  • Publication number: 20240018980
Abstract: A microstructured surface with microfeatures formed thereon and defining spaces between the microfeatures includes least one electrode of an electrode pair in the spaces, wherein electrodes of the pair are electrically connected to one another. The at least one electrode located in the space is configured to generate a gas in between the microfeatures when an electrolyte solution penetrates into the microfeatures. Importantly, the electrodes are not connected to any external power source. Because the microstructured surface is self-powered in replenishing the gas lost in a submerged condition, no additional provision to supply energy or regulate the replenishment is necessary for implementation and use.

  • Publication number: 20240017070
Abstract: A device and method are taught for stimulating sympathetic nerves toward mitigating negative impacts to hematopoiesis. An autonomic nerve actuator and stimulator system with a graphic user interface (GUI), controller circuit which converts treatment parameters into a series of Building Block Waveforms (BBW) which are output to Current/Voltage Driver Circuitry (CDC) whose electrical stimulus (ES) outputs are coupled to one or more electrodes and/or electrode arrays positioned proximal specific nerve situations. The use of this in combination with conventional chemotherapy treatments, such as use of carboplatin, was found to significantly enhance hematopoiesis, with improvements in white and red blood cell counts, platelet concentration and hemoglobin concentration, in addition to other measurable characteristics which increased survival rates in the experimental groups tested.

  • Patent number: 11876725
Abstract: Techniques for transmitting data packets on a shared channel in a data communications network include storing, on a local node, a current number of turns in a transmitting queue and a current turn based on packets received from other nodes on the channel. For a first local data packet to transmit, a local transmit turn is obtained based on successfully transmitting the packet in a time interval following a last turn in the queue. A data link layer header includes queue fields for the current number of turns, the local transmit turn, and a request for adding the local transmit turn. While there is still a remaining packet to transmit and when the current turn is the local transmit turn, the packet is transmitted with queue fields indicating the current number of turns, the current turn, and an indication of no new turn. An acknowledgement control packet indicates successful transmission.

  • Publication number: 20240014635
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system that implements a multiwavelength laser. This system includes a set of reflective semiconductor operational amplifiers (RSOAs) and a broadband loop mirror having an input and an output. The system also includes an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) multiplexer having inputs that are coupled to outputs of the set of RSOAs, and having an output that feeds into the input of the loop mirror. During operation of the system, each RSOA in the set of RSOAs forms a wavelength-specific lasing cavity with a specific passband of the AWG multiplexer and the broadband loop mirror. The wavelength-specific laser signals produced by the wavelength-specific lasing cavities combine at the output of the loop mirror to produce a multiwavelength signal, which is emitted through an output of the system.
