Patent number: 4885508Abstract: An electronic control system employing logical control for controlling a gas vapor arc globe. Power from a power source such as an AC power line or DC or AC generator is connected by a control switch to a logical control circuit which initially activates the igniter for the globe. In the event that the igniter does not cause the globe to ignite a control signal is provided to turn the power off. The voltage for operating the globe is boosted by means of a boost voltage generator to a substantially higher voltage than that of the power source. The operating voltage for the globe is generated by means of a multivibrator which runs at a relatively low frequency and a pulse width modulator which runs at a high audio frequency. The square wave output of the multivibrator (typically 60 Hz) is modulated by the pulse output of the pulse width modulator (typically 20 KHz) to provide a square wave DC to the globe modulated by high frequency rectangular pulses having a width which determines the intensity of the globe.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1988Date of Patent: December 5, 1989Assignee: Mole-Richardson CompanyInventor: William G. Patent number: 4628230Abstract: A regulated light dimmer control circuit which is particularly suitable for use in controlling the level of illumination of lights in a sound stage environment such as a motion picture set television studio or sound studio. A variable D.C. voltage source is utilized as the dimmer control usually located within the studio and manually controlled by an operator. The D.C. output of the dimmer control is fed to a voltage regulator and controller which receives an output from a timing circuit having a periodic waveform output which is synchronized with the A.C. power line and provides a trigger signal for a solid state relay when the D.C. fed from the dimmer control to the voltage controller is equal to or greater than the output of the timing circuit. Thus, the solid state relay will be fired for a portion of the A.C. period which is in accordance with the D.C. voltage set on the dimmer control. Patent number: 4450384Abstract: A light dimmer control system for controlling the current supplied from a DC power source to high power illuminating lamps. The current fed to the lamp is controlled by manually setting the width of the pulsed output of a pulse width modulator by means of a potentiometer or the like appropriately connected to the pulse width modulator. The output of the pulse width modulator drives an output driver circuit which is connected in series with the current path to the lamp. The lamp power is provided from a DC source which is controlled by the output driver circuit in series with the lamp. The power for the semiconductor components of the DC controller, which includes the pulse width modulator, is provided from the same DC source and stepped down by a DC-DC converter. A logical control circuit is employed which enables the energization of the system only when both the polarity of the DC input supply is correct and the low voltage DC is on, thereby minimizing the possibility of damaging system components.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1982Date of Patent: May 22, 1984Assignee: Mole-Richardson CompanyInventor: William G. Patent number: 4230492Abstract: A stabilizer, applied either as a coating over the sub-base layer of a presensitized planographic plate or blended into the sensitizer layer thereof, prevents degradation of the sensitizer enabling such plates to be stored over prolonged periods of time without loss of image quality or printing performance. The stabilizer is an aryl sulfonic acid or derivative thereof and, preferably, a haloaryl sulfonic acid or alkali metal salt thereof. In a particularly preferred presensitized plate, a p-chlorobenzene sulfonic acid coating is directly applied to a silicated anodized aluminum plate base and forms a separate layer interposed between the silicate sub-base and a water soluble diazo resin sensitizer layer.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1978Date of Patent: October 28, 1980Assignee: The Richardson CompanyInventor: Daniel C. Patent number: 4209285Abstract: A unitary packing especially suitable for use in pumps which transport liquids such as water-based solutions or suspensions includes a generally concave working face having an outer cylindrical annular flange, a generally convex opposed face preshaped for complementary overlying engagement with the working side of a pump piston. The packing, during use, is characterized by substantially reduced stresses and an extended life when compared with conventional packings. The packing may also be structured for occasional axial rotation with respect to the cylinder wall of the pump, which rotation may be enhanced by providing a force-directing element on the concave working face of the packing, this occasional rotation serving to circumferentially reorient the outer cylindrical annular flange of the packing with respect to the inner wall of the pump cylinder to thereby uniformly distribute wear caused by imperfections such as occlusions in the cylinder lining.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1977Date of Patent: June 24, 1980Assignee: The Richardson CompanyInventors: Dennis N. Patent number: 4207387Abstract: A container for a remotely-vented lead-acid storage battery includes a multi-compartment base containing individual cells of the battery and an overlying cover in vapor-sealed engagement with the base. A gas collection manifold positioned within a recess in the bottom surface of the cover includes a plurality of interconnected expansion chambers which communicate with respective ones of the battery cell compartments, and a discharge port exterior to the battery container. Battery gas collected within the expansion chambers is conveyed within the manifold to the discharge port, thereby avoiding the need for additional gas collection elements external to the cover and the attendant possibility of leakage of battery gas in the vicinity of the battery.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1978Date of Patent: June 10, 1980Assignee: The Richardson CompanyInventor: Gottfried W.
