Patents Assigned to The Secretary of State for Defence in Her Brittanic Majesty's Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britian and Northern Ireland
  • Patent number: 6312770
Abstract: This invention describes a method for the loading and alignment of elastomers in electro-optic and electro-active devices. It comprises the in-situ polymerization between substrates of liquid crystal monomers in the presence of cross-linking reagents. It also describes the production of free-standing elastomer films.

  • Patent number: 6251301
Abstract: Ferroelectric liquid crystal devices having two spaced cell walls each bearing electrode structures and treated on at least one facing surface with an alignment layer, and a layer of a smectic liquid crystal material enclosed between the cell walls, exhibits a minimum in its response time versus voltage curve. The crystal material has two components, A and B.

  • Patent number: 4624752
Abstract: A method of surface pretreatment for aluminium or aluminium alloys before adhesive coating, electroplating or painting comprises a first anodizing step using an acid selected to produce a dense-packed, thick-walled anodic oxide coating followed by an etching step to modify the outer surface of the oxide coating while leaving the inner part unaffected. The anodizing acid may be sulphuric acid or chromic acid and the etch acid may be phosphoric acid, chromic acid or a mixture of sulphuric and chromic acids.
