Abstract: A universal series motor having its brushes shifted at an angle against the direction of rotation is provided with a braking arrangement which removes power from the field windings and applies power directly to the armature winding.
Abstract: In a ring laser gyroscope which has a triangular block configuration, and which incorporates a triangular shaped laser resonant cavity defined by three corner mirrors, including an output mirror, the gyroscope is sinusoidally dithered to reduce lock-in effects at low angular rotational rates and the gyroscope output is corrected for error caused by lock-in at the extremities of each oscillation when the dither velocity is equal to zero by accumulating the ac voltage outputs of a photodiode measuring the light intensity of the interference pattern at each zero dither velocity and when the accumulated phase error reaches 2.pi. an overflow or borrow pulse is generated and added to the normal gyroscope output thereby correcting for the accumulated errors caused by lock-in at zero dither velocity.
Abstract: The inlet to the water valve is provided with a resilient flow control device which deflects under pressure to reduce the inlet orifice and maintain substantially uniform flow. On the outlet side of the flow control the liquid is forced to turn at right angles to reach the multiple restricted orifices where the liquid again must turn 90.degree.. At low pressures the flow is divided between 8 orifices 4 of which are gradually shut off by deflection of the flow control so at high inlet pressure the flow is divided among 4 orifices positioned in channels protecting them from being shut off by deflection of the flow control. The reduced velocity caused by the two 90.degree. turns in flow results in substantial reduction of flow noise.
Abstract: A system is disclosed for minimizing sewing needle breakage on a zig zag sewing machine. A device is included on the sewing machine for sensing the presence of a straight stitch presser foot and, if present, for inhibiting any lateral jogging of the needle bar due to the operator inadvertently selecting a zig zag pattern.
Abstract: A sewing machine is disclosed wherein the position of the edge of a work fabric is sensed and signals are generated to control the needle jogging mechanism in order to sew a line of stitches a substantially constant predetermined distance from the edge.
Abstract: A sewing machine thread snubber having a fixed part and having a movable part pivoted thereon is provided with mechanism operable by needle bar reciprocating mechanism for moving the pivoted part of the snubber between a needle thread releasing position and a position wherein a drag is imposed on the thread.

Abstract: A zig-zag sewing machine is provided with a compensating link and slide which engage on curved surfaces extending in a circular arc that has its center in line with the link. The compensating link and slide are situated between a crank and needle bar and move relative to each other during zig-zag operations to modify the operating effect of the crank and cause a needle to be similarly positioned relative to a vertical axis hook for loop taking in alternate zig-zag positions of the needle bar.
Abstract: A sewing machine is described having a presser foot lifting arrangement actuated by a presser lifting rock shaft in the sewing machine arm and both a power operated presser lifting device such as a pneumatic cylinder, electric solenoid, or other actuator as well as an operator controlled presser lifter actuator such as a knee shift or the like wherein there is provided linkage means connecting the presser lifting rock shaft in the sewing machine arm with both the operator influenced and power driven actuator. The linkage means is formed with a pair of parallel lost motion slots each embracing a crank pin associated with a respective one of the actuators so that both actuators are connected for independent operation without influence on each other.
Abstract: A motor operated circular miter chop saw is pivotally mounted on a generally horizontal axle pivot bolt about which it rotates in a vertical plane with the axle pivot bolt being carried by a cast support base structure provided with means allowing lateral adjustment of one end of the axle pivot bolt and vertical adjustment of the other end. Angular orientation of the work piece is provided by an angularly adjustable fence rotatably carried by the cast base support structure with the fence having lugs cooperating with an arcuate slot or groove provided in the cast base support structure. The cast base support structure is also provided with an arcuate slot to provide clearance for the circular saw blade while an adjustable stop is provided carried by the cast support base to preclude the circular saw blade from contacting the cast support base structure. Spring means are also provided for biasing the saw to an upwardly pivoted position.
Abstract: A gas meter is disclosed having a one-way index incorporated therein for causing the indicating means thereof to run only in a forward direction regardless of the actual direction of gas flow. A pivoting member is oscillated by a rotating cam coupled to the measuring means of the meter and includes pawls attached thereto for driving a ratchet wheel, coupled to the indicating means, in one direction only. By this arrangement, the oscillation of the member is independent of the direction of rotation of the cam, which rotation is indicative of the direction of gas flow.
Abstract: A surveying instrument sensor which includes a gimbal supported for rotation within a casing, a torquer coupled to rotate the gimbal with a first two-axis flexure suspended gyro supported on the gimbal with its spin axis perpendicular to the axis of the gimbal and one of its sensitive axes aligned with the axis of the gimbal, a second two-axis flexure suspended gyro disposed on the gimbal with its spin axis alinged with the axis of the gimbal and having two sensitive axes outputs orthogonal thereto. The output of the first gyro is coupled to the torquer to form a gimbal stabilized loop and the outputs and torquing inputs of the second gimbal coupled into rate capture loops with output signals obtained from the rate captured loops permitting fast and accurate surveying of a well pipe.
Abstract: A lockstitch sewing machine utilizing a needle looper to extend upwardly through a work material to grasp an upper thread and pull it downwardly through the work material to a looptaker which casts the upper thread about a lower thread in order to form a lockstitch. When the needle looper is in an upper position to catch an upper thread, a hook needle is exposed and thread is deflected into the hook thereof. As the needle looper is retracted to a depressed position the hook needle is moved to a guard position so as to retain the upper thread therein during transit. When the needle looper is at its lower position, the hook is again exposed to release its thread to a looptaker for concatenation with a lower thread.
Abstract: An auxiliary feed regulator for a differential feed mechanism, which auxiliary regulator may be manipulated by a sewing machine operator during sewing without feed back or vibration to the operator. An auxiliary regulator foot treadle may be connected to an auxiliary feed actuating lever by the usual chain, the feed actuating lever being formed with a slot for receiving a stud carried by a one end of a connecting link, the other end of which is operatively associated with a slider carried by an auxiliary feed rock lever. The slot in the feed actuating lever extends in a direction to give the greatest distance from the pivotal connection of the feed actuating lever and from the slider at the extreme thereof effective during feed motion and to the least distance therefrom at the extreme thereof effective for return motion.
Abstract: A tailor tacking device attachable to the presser bar of a zig-zag sewing machine is provided with an elongated member to support the loops of zig-zag stitches and move from an elevated to a depressed position during downward movement of a needle bar to avoid having the supporting member interfere at such time with the needle of the machine.
Abstract: For a zigzag sewing machine having a buttonhole presser device allowing formation of a buttonhole in a single step, a method for insuring that the presser device is in its initiating position by determining where the movable portion of the presser device is and, if it is not in its correct position, to adjust feeding action required to move it to its correct position.
