Abstract: A security document and its method of preparation are provided wherein a security image area on the face of the document is designated. The security image area comprises a two-dimensional array of security image blocks. Security image elements and the complementary security image elements in respective security image blocks are arranged such that the security image element and the complementary security image element portions occupy respective first and second percentages of each of the security image blocks to define respective characteristic relative occupation values (CROVs) for each security image block. The respective CROVs are substantially equivalent among a plurality of the security image blocks. A target CROV is established.

Abstract: This need is met by the present invention wherein an improved shipment form is provided comprising a partially releasable liner ply, a peel-out package label portion, and a peel-out signature tab. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, a shipment form is provided comprising a face sheet, a liner ply, and an adhesive interposed between the face sheet and the liner ply. The face sheet includes printed indicia for indicating an attempted delivery. The adhesive includes a laminating adhesive portion and a reusable adhesive portion. The liner ply defines a releasable liner ply portion adjoining a laminated liner ply portion. The releasable liner ply portion is configured to releasably adhere to the reusable adhesive portion while remaining adjoined to the laminated liner ply portion.

Abstract: A controlled substance dispensing form is provided. The form includes a face sheet, a liner ply, an imaging interface interposed between the face sheet and the liner ply, and an adhesive interposed between the face sheet and the liner ply. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, a controlled substance dispensing form is provided comprising a face sheet, a liner ply, an imaging interface interposed between the face sheet and the liner ply, and an adhesive interposed between the face sheet and the liner ply to secure the face sheet to the liner ply. The liner ply is configured to define an upper liner ply surface, a lower liner ply surface, and a plurality of releasable liner ply portions. The adhesive is configured to define respective reusable adhesive portions. Abstract: An over-wrap label for a container includes a label substrate having a first end and a second end, a first major surface and a second major surface. The first major surface includes a first area of adhesive material adapted to secure the first end of the label substrate to the container, a second area of adhesive material adjacent to the second end of the label substrate, and at least one portion of the first major surface remains free of adhesive. The second major surface includes an area of release material, the label being of a size such that the second end of the label substrate extends around the container and overlaps the first end. The second end is releasably securable to the second major surface of the label substrate by contacting the second area of adhesive material with the area of release material.

Abstract: An order entry system is provided comprising a first computer system, a printing station computer system, a form design repository, a second computer system, a validation engine, and a pricing engine. The first computer system captures form design data and the second computer generates a form price, validates the form, and transmits a validated and priced order to the printing station computer system. The second computer is also programmed to store an index of form design files in the form design repository. The forms order entry system is also programmed to determine manufacturability of an ordered form by comparing its form design data to a set of validation rules and route manufacturability exceptions to a selected one of a plurality of exception handling locations. The pricing engine determines identified labor, material, burden, and mark-up cost components, and applies a set of pricing rules to them, to enable calculation of a form price.

Abstract: A business form includes a carrier sheet having an upper surface and a lower surface, and defining a die cut opening there through, with a patch of liner material mounted on the lower surface of the carrier sheet. The patch extends over the opening. The liner material has an upper surface facing the die cut opening in the carrier sheet, and carries a release coating on the upper surface. A two ply label assembly is mounted on the patch of liner material in the die cut opening. The two ply label assembly includes a transparent ply mounted on the upper surface of the patch of liner material, and a label ply mounted on the transparent ply. The form is manufactured by: a.) die cutting an opening in a piece of carrier material; b.) adhesively affixing a patch of liner material to the piece of carrier material; c.) mounting a transparent ply on the patch of liner material within the die cut opening; and d.) mounting a label ply on the transparent ply. Abstract: A security document is prepared by designating specialized tiling elements to be printed in selected image element cells across the face of the document. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, a method of preparing a security document is provided comprising the steps of: (i) designating a security image area on a face of a document; (ii) dividing the security image area into a plurality of image element cells, such that the image element cells define an array of image element cells across the security image area; and (iii) designating respective printed tiling elements to be printed in selected ones of the image element cells to define a printed security image and a printed complementary security image within the security image area. Individual ones of the respective printed tiling elements comprise printed units positioned within the respective image element cells.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to the deliberate cancellation of MICR-readable documents by applying a penetrating ink through the MICR line of the document wherein the ink contains magnetic particles which disrupt the reading of the MICR line by the MICR reader. The magnetic particles in the ink do not penetrate along with the other ink components, but remain on or near the surface of the document. These extraneous magnetic particles interfere with MICR readers by preventing accurate reading of the encoded MICR characters and cause the MICR reader to reject such a document from normal processing automatically.

Abstract: Smearing of indicia (30,36) or deterioration of a label may be eliminated in a label form that provides protection for the imaging (30,36) in a construction that includes a sheet of transparent face stock (12), a layer of transparent pressure sensitive adhesive (14) on one side of the face stock sheet (12) and a sheet of transparent release liner (10) releasably adhered to the one side of the face stock sheet (12) by the adhesive (14). A die cut (18) is located in the release liner sheet (10) and defines a first removable frame section (20) and a second label defining section (22). The first section (20) surrounds the second section (22) so that when removed, a pattern of the adhesive (14) will be exposed. Reverse image printing (30) is disposed on the release liner second section (22).

Abstract: A thermally imagable business record, such as a form, label, tag, or the like is provided which may be activated to form human and/or machine readable images as well as different colored images. The record comprises a substrate having a thermally imagable coating on substantially its entire surface which forms a first color when activated, and having a desensitized area on at least one area of its surface which may be overcoated with a thermally imagable coating capable of forming a different color upon activation than the first thermally imagable coating. The first thermally imagable coating provides images which are of machine readable quality, while the additional thermally imagable coatings provide images of a different color to designate selected areas on the form or label to a user.

Abstract: A security document according to the present invention includes a document substrate having a surface for receiving printed indicia. A half tone warning image is printed on first areas of the surface and a half-tone background image is printed in second areas surrounding the first areas. The half-tone a warning image includes at least one word indicating a status of a copy of the document. A camouflage image extending over the document surface for confusing the eye of an observer such that said warning image is not readily observed. The camouflage image includes at least one word indicating to an observer a status of the original document. One of the half-tone warning image and the half-tone background image are printed with half-tone elements of such a line spacing and element size that it is not readily reproducible by a photocopier. As a consequence, the half-tone warning image becomes apparent on photocopies of the original document.

Abstract: A thermally imagable business record such as a form, tag, label or the like is provided in which selected areas of the record may be activated to form an image upon exposure to heat. In one embodiment, at least one selected area of a substrate surface contains a thermally imagable coating of initially colorless color formers and color developers while the remaining areas of the substrate are left uncoated. The substrate may be pre-coated to provide a smooth, non-porous base coat for the thermally imagable coating, and may also include a protective coating layer to protect the subsequently printed thermal image.

Abstract: A document printer is provided comprising a printer housing, a user interface and an internal printer controller positioned within the printer housing. The internal printer controller is programmed to designate a document format according to a format command entered at the user interface. A data stream input port is in communication with the internal printer controller and is operative to receive a data stream. A document construction module is in communication with the internal printer controller. The document construction module enables the internal printer controller to (i) extract predetermined data fields from the data stream according to the designated document format and (ii) convert the extracted data fields to document data. A document data printing mechanism is responsive to the internal printer controller and is operative to print the document data in the designated document format.

Abstract: Security paper, security documents made from the security paper, and processes for making the security paper, are provided. A filament is bonded and embedded into paper which has previously been manufactured. The filament is bonded to the paper by an adhesive, or by heat and pressure. The filament is embedded into the paper by pressure applied by rolls. The filament may be imprinted with printed matter for visual confirmation of document authenticity. The filament may include any combination of security features, such as reflective filaments, fluorescent filaments, and high tensile strength filaments.

Abstract: A security document is provided comprising a substrate having a top surface for carrying printed indicia. Background printed matter is printed on the top surface. The background printed matter is made up of a pattern of background elements. A security term is also printed on the top surface of the substrate. The security term is composed of a pattern of security term elements. The background elements or the security term elements, or both, are organized in a non-orthogonal, repetitive pattern. Also, either the background elements or the security term elements are not readily duplicated by a color copier while the other elements are readily duplicated by a color copier. This results in a visually perceptible security term being produced upon a copy of the security document. The security document is "imaging friendly.

Abstract: A comprehensive document audit system and a process for generating document field reports utilizing a computer programmed to sort document data indicative of the characteristics of a group of selected documents are provided. A digital controller is programmed to cause document data indicative of the characteristics of a selected document to be received and sorted and is programmed to cause sorted document data to be saved. A document data entry device and a document field report generator are in communication with the digital controller. A system operator collects a group of documents and assigns document characteristic information to the documents. The operator identifies a set of document data indicative of the characteristics of each document and inputs the document data into a computer programmed to cause the document data to be sorted and saved. The computer sorts the document data and a field report is generated from the sorted document data.

Abstract: A security document is provided comprising human readable transaction data, a plurality of security image elements, a plurality of complementary security image elements, and an encoded information block comprising a plurality of digital glyphs printed thereon. The human readable transaction data printed on the top surface of the substrate forms a full tone image and includes an enhanced security data item. The security image elements printed on the top surface of the substrate and the plurality of complementary security image elements printed on the top surface of the substrate define a security image. The encoded information block comprises a plurality of digital glyphs printed on the top surface of the substrate and comprises encoded transaction data corresponding to at least a portion of the human readable transaction data.

Abstract: Security paper, security documents made from the security paper, and processes for making the security paper, are provided. A groove is formed in paper and a security element is positioned or bonded within the groove. A coating is applied over the security element so that the coating covers at least a portion of the security element and is coplanar with the surface of the paper. The security element may include any combination of security features for verification of document authenticity.

Abstract: A security ink is provided containing a colored dye, a colored pigment, and a fluorescent pigment. The ink may be printed on a number of security documents such as checks and may be passed through printing devices such as laser printers without the problem of damage to the ink the printed image, or the printer. The fluorescent pigment in the ink will fluoresce when the document is exposed to ultraviolet light and may be used to provide an authentication feature.
