Abstract: The present invention provides pharmaceutical or veterinary implants which, when subdermally administered releases a peptide or protein in a substantially continuous manner. The implant includes the peptide or protein and an excipient encased within a polymeric coating which is permeable, swellable and, at normal physiological pH, is non-rupturing, non-dissolving and does not degrade over the useful life the implant. The coating forms a release rate limiting barrier. All of the components used to make the implant are of a biocompatible nature. The implant is particularly useful for the sustained release of proteins or peptides for regulating the hormonally controlled reproductive cycle in sheep.

Abstract: A veterinary composition useful for treatment of energy depletion, dehydration and electrolyte imbalance in diarrhoeic neonatal animals consisting essentially of(a) glucose in an amount sufficient to produce a concentration level of from greater than 200 nM to 250 mM when in an aqueous solution,(b) one or more sodium salts in an amount sufficient to produce a sodium ion concentration level of from 60 mM to 120 mM when in an aqueous solution, and(c) one or more chloride salts in an amount sufficient to produce a chloride ion concentration level of 50 mM to 90 mM when in an aqueous solution.
Abstract: An atomiser having a drum which has a driving end portion and an annular portion extending therefrom, there being slots extending in an axial direction between the inner drum surface and the outer drum surface of the annular portion, so that there are a plurality of edges from which the liquid film moves away from the drum to form droplets and the film can thereby be thin even though rates of flow of the order of 2 liters/minute can be discharged from a small drum.

Abstract: An apparatus for testing a sample of fibres or filaments including a scanning zone in which said sample is located and scanning means. Transport means is provided for producing relative movement between the scanning zone and the scanning means whereby to define a primary scan path therebetween. The scanning means includes irradiation means arranged to irradiate a portion of the scanning zone, and at least one radiation detector responsive to the irradiation whereby to provide an output indicating the presence or otherwise of a discrete length of fibre or filament in the portion, and processing means for processing the detector output to provide a measure of one or more parameters of the sample.
