    Abstract: An improved technique involves embedding a pen selection within a selected color. When a user selects a color for a new stroke by moving a cursor over a color icon, a pen palette appears within the selected color icon. In some arrangements, the improved techniques further involve automatically selecting a pen by default as the previous pen used for that color, so that only a single color selection need be made rather than separate pen and color selections. In this way, the user may then quickly and fluidly select both a color, then a pen for a drawing stroke. Such a color and pen selection process may be seen to simulate the actions in drawing on a whiteboard.

The cable retractor with which the speed control is used comprises a pulley that engages a cable that may be extended and retracted. A friction element configured to adjustably contact the cable adjacent to the pulley is attached to a movable linkage. The movement of the linkage is constrained to move along a predetermined path such that movement of the linkage along the path alters the distance between the friction element and the pulley. In one or more embodiments a cantilevered spring is attached to the linkage. An adjustable control, for example a thumbscrew, is configured to move the spring in relation to the linkage in a manner that alters the position of the friction element with respect to the cable and/or the pressure exerted by the friction element on the cable.

    Abstract: A system includes a guidance device that provides feedback to a user to compress a patient's chest at a rate of between about 90 and 110 compressions per minute and at a depth of between about 4.5 centimeters to about 6 centimeters. The system includes a pressure regulation system having a pressure-responsive valve that is configured to be coupled to a patient's airway. The pressure-responsive valve is configured to remain closed during successive chest compressions in order to permit removal at least about 200 ml from the lungs in order to lower intracranial pressure to improve survival with favorable neurological function. The pressure-responsive valve is configured to remain closed until the negative pressure within the patient's airway reaches about ?7 cm H2O, at which time the pressure-responsive valve is configured to open to provide respiratory gases to flow to the lungs through the pressure-responsive valve.

    Abstract: In a clock recovery system, a phase detector detects a phase error in an incoming data signal, which it outputs as a differential pair of voltage signals representing positive and negative errors, respectively. A proportional filter generates a proportional offset from the phase error, also as a differential pair of voltage signals. An integral filter generates an integral offset from the proportional offset, using positive and negative voltage controlled oscillators to generate oscillating integral offset signals, and an accumulator to increment or decrement a digital counter for each cycle of the integral offset signals. A first, fractional phase interpolator operating over a ninety-degree range adjusts the phase of an initial clock signal to generate an intermediate clock signal, according to the proportional offset. A second phase interpolator adjusts the phase of the intermediate clock signal to generate an adjusted clock signal, according to the integral offset.

When the shaft moves the plunger into the smaller inner diameter of the syringe, the portion of the sidewall contracts and the feature operably engages the shaft. An optional deformable end wall of the plunger may be spaced apart from a distal terminal end of the inserted shaft.

    Abstract: A system is described for time synchronizing digitized measurement signals, such as vibration signals. The digitized signals, which are acquired asynchronously by multiple distributed measurement units, indicate the operational condition of a machine or a process. To measure the phase of the digitized signals relative to a pulse tachometer input, the time between the leading edge of the tachometer pulse and the digitized samples is measured. To achieve phase-coherent synchronization across the distributed measurement units, a local synchronization signal is embedded into the data produced by the measurement units. The systems uses the synchronization signal to align the data in post processing, which phase aligns the data and aligns the data in absolute time. The synchronization signal may be encoded with a timestamp to provide additional timing information.
