Abstract: A two-shot injection mold employs a cam pin/slide actuation to open and close the mold, and is configured to leave the mold closed after the first shot and to open it only after the second shot, employing open-topped cam slide channels and two different cam pin configurations to effect the operation.
Abstract: A system for removing from a molding tool a runner assembly having a plurality of molded parts that are connected to a runner via gates and subsequently degating the plurality of molded parts from the runner is provided. The system includes a source of ultrasonic energy and a robot arm assembly. The robot arm assembly is configured to remove the runner assembly from the molding tool and to position the runner assembly proximate the source of ultrasonic energy.
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a system and method for manufacturing plastic injection mold cavity components. More specifically, the present invention provides an integrated system and method for manufacturing plastic injection mold cavity components, which integrates manufacturing between two or more subcells. In one embodiment of the invention, a supercell system integrates two or more subcells, in which component workpieces and electrodes are machined. A supercell may include a computerized master control unit, configured to monitor and provide instructions for a master robot that delivers and retrieves workpieces and electrodes to two or more subcells. Thus, two or more subcells may be integrated by the master control unit, the master robot, a track or path that the master robot follows, identification indicia attached to workpieces and electrodes, a combination thereof or any other components of supercell that may suitably integrate two or more subcells.
Abstract: The invention generally discloses an apparatus and method for removing threaded, molded articles from an injection mold. A cam system and linear drive/following gear mechanism engages a finely resolved retraction of a threaded mold core, under substantially full mold clamp pressure, prior to rotational disengagement of the core from the molded article. The invention also describes a system for the reduction of galling that may otherwise occur when mold components experience relative rotation with respect to each other. Moreover, the invention describes an apparatus and method for substantially reducing periodic maintenance checks and interruptions in production.
Abstract: A tapered running block and corresponding tapered cavity blocks are utilized in a mold for fabricating relatively thin, flat plastic cards, such as used for pre-paid telephone cards and the like. The mating surfaces of the runner block and the cavity block are angularly tapered; so that metal-to-metal contact is made between the runner block and the cavity block when the mold is in the plastic injection position. As soon as relative movement of the runner block and the cavity block is effected to part the blocks and separate the cards from the runners, the tapered 1surfaces move away from one another without any sliding contact, thereby significantly reducing wear in the mold.
