  • Patent number: 10066450
Abstract: A stiffener assembly for a riser extending from a subsea well component through an opening in a floating platform has at least two partially cylindrical inner sleeve segments that mount around the riser. Inner sleeve grooves are on an outer surface of each of the inner sleeve segments, defining inner sleeve ribs. The inner sleeve segments have abutting side edges when mounted around the riser. At least two partially cylindrical outer sleeve segments are mounted around the inner sleeve segments. The outer sleeve segments have abutting side edges when mounted around the inner sleeve segments. Outer sleeve grooves on an inner surface of each of the outer sleeve segments define outer sleeve ribs that fit within the inner sleeve grooves between the inner sleeve ribs. The abutting side edges of the outer sleeve segments are circumferentially offset from the abutting side edges of the inner sleeve segments.

  • Patent number: 8579034
Abstract: A riser tensioner system maintains a tensile force in a riser having an axis and extending from a subsea wellhead assembly through an opening in a floating platform deck. The tensioner includes a plurality of tensioner legs having lower ends mounted to the deck, and upper ends having slots formed therein to receive leg attachment plates having an opening therein through which a tubular support ring passes. A plurality of cylinders extend between the tubular support ring and a tensioner ring and couple to the support ring with cylinder attachment plates through which the tubular support ring passes. An upper end of each cylinder pivots about the mounting point, and a lower end of each cylinder adjustably mounts to the tensioner ring.

  • Patent number: 7404697
Abstract: The present invention provides a pipe-handling machine (100) for picking up and laying down pipe, such as at a rig site. The machine first comprises three elongated and nested truss members. First, a trestle (200) is provided; second, a trough carrier (300) is received within the trestle; and third, a trough (400) is slidably received within the trough carrier. The machine next comprises an inclined ramp (500). A lower end of the ramp is pivotally connected to the trestle, while an upper end of the ramp extends upward to the rig floor. The length of the ramp is adjustable to accommodate rig floors of varying heights. A trestle transport mechanism (550) selectively moves a front end of the trestle upwards along the ramp, thereby delivering a joint of pipe to the rig floor. The trough may optionally be moved along the trough carrier and out over the rig floor to aid in delivery.

  • Patent number: 7328520
Abstract: A gage for measuring a diameter of a workpiece has a pair of parallel spaced apart side rails. A pair of block sets is mounted between the side rails and spaced apart from each other. A pair of arms extends transverse to the rails through mating profiles in the blocks of each block set. The arms are slidable in a transverse direction to the side rails. Each block set can slide along the side rails and has a single fastener that secures the blocks to the side rails and the arms to the blocks in a desired position. Drag brakes between the blocks and the side rails prevent the components from sliding of their own weight while the fasteners are loosened. The block sets and arms are rotatable 180 degrees about the fasteners when loosened to accommodate outside and inside measurements.

  • Patent number: 6910618
Abstract: A steel pipe is welded to a threaded connector that has an end with a desired nominal inner diameter. A swage is forced over an end of the pipe, reducing an outer diameter and an initial inner diameter of the end of the pipe. A die is then forced into the end of the pipe, the die having an outer diameter sized to increase the inner diameter of the end of the pipe to the nominal inner diameter of the end of the connector. A weld groove is machined on the end of the pipe and the ends are abutted and welded at the weld grooves.

  • Patent number: 6755447
Abstract: A pipe connector has a rigid seal/support ring mounted on its pin. The pin has a nose and external threads extending rearward from the nose. The rigid seal/support ring is fixedly mounted on an exterior portion of the pin farther from the pin nose than the pin threads. The rigid seal/support ring is installed by a shrink- or press-fit and has a tapered exterior seal surface. The box has a rim and internal threads that mate with the external pin threads. The box has a seal surface for engaging the seal surface of the rigid seal/support ring to form an external seal. The box also has a seal surface to form an internal seal with the nose of the pin.

  • Patent number: 6494499
Abstract: A pipe connector for offshore risers has conical thread forms. The connector has a pin with a nose, an external shoulder, and conical first and second pin threaded sections. The first and second pin threaded sections are axially separated by a pin intermediate section that is free of threads. The first and second pin threaded sections are formed on a single continuous taper and on a continuous helix. The intermediate section is also conical and at the same taper as the pin first and second threaded sections. The connecter has a box with a rim, an internal base, and a conical receptacle between the rim and the base. The conical receptacle has first and second box threaded sections that make up with the pin threaded sections. The box also has an intermediate section between its first and second threaded connections that is free of threads. The intermediate sections make up with radial interference. Upper and lower metal-to-metal sealing surfaces are located at the nose and at the base of the pin.

  • Patent number: 5590724
Abstract: An underreamer which may be mounted on a core drill to allow single phase underreaming or creation of a bore hole of larger diameter beneath a pilot hole. A plurality of levers are powered by a plurality of corresponding jacks which are adapted to exert pressure on the levers in order to cause them to extend beyond the periphery of the expander body. Each lever contains at least one roller-cutter rotatably mounted to the lever so that when the levers are forced outward, the roller-cutters crush rock beyond the periphery of the expander body and thus underream the bore hole.
