Patent number: 11845834Abstract: Compositions including a polyamide, and compaction rollers for an automated fiber placement machine incorporating the composition are provided. The polyamide may be a reaction product of at least one diamine and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, a hydroxy benzoic acid, or their respective ester or acyl halide derivatives. The at least one diamine may include an amino terminated perfluorinated alkyl ether polymer or oligomer. The composition may have a thermal conductivity of from about 0.2 to about 50 Watts per meter Kelvin (Wm?1K?1).Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2021Date of Patent: December 19, 2023Assignees: The Boeing Company, United States Government, as Represented by the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationInventors: Sayata Ghose, Marcus Anthony Belcher, John W. Connell

Patent number: 11697709Abstract: Compositions including a poly(arylene ether), and compaction rollers for an automated fiber placement machine incorporating the composition are provided. The poly(arylene ether) may be a reaction product of at least one disubstituted benzophenone and at least one polyol. The at least one polyol may include at least one fluorinated diol. The composition may have a thermal conductivity of from about 0.2 to about 50 Watts per meter Kelvin (Wm?1K?1).Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2021Date of Patent: July 11, 2023Assignees: THE BOEING COMPANY, United States Government, as Represented by the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationInventors: Sayata Ghose, Marcus Anthony Belcher, John W. Patent number: 7655145Abstract: Method and system for processing of a liquid (“contaminant liquid”) containing water and containing urine and/or other contaminants in a two step process. Urine, or a contaminated liquid similar to and/or containing urine and thus having a relatively high salt and urea content is passed through an activated carbon filter to provide a resulting liquid, to remove most of the organic molecules. The resulting liquid is passed through a semipermeable membrane from a membrane first side to a membrane second side, where a fortified drink having a lower water concentration (higher osmotic potential) than the resulting liquid is positioned. Osmotic pressure differential causes the water, but not most of the remaining inorganic (salts) contaminant(s) to pass through the membrane to the fortified drink. Optionally, the resulting liquid is allowed to precipitate additional organic molecules before passage through the membrane.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2006Date of Patent: February 2, 2010Assignee: United States Government as represented by the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)Inventors: Sherwin J. Gormly, Michael T. Flynn

Patent number: 6223143Abstract: A quantitative risk assessment system (QRAS) builds a risk model of a system for which risk of failure is being assessed, then analyzes the risk of the system corresponding to the risk model. The QRAS performs sensitivity analysis of the risk model by altering fundamental components and quantifications built into the risk model, then re-analyzes the risk of the system using the modifications. More particularly, the risk model is built by building a hierarchy, creating a mission timeline, quantifying failure modes, and building/editing event sequence diagrams. Multiplicities, dependencies, and redundancies of the system are included in the risk model. For analysis runs, a fixed baseline is first constructed and stored. This baseline contains the lowest level scenarios, preserved in event tree structure. The analysis runs, at any level of the hierarchy and below, access this baseline for risk quantitative computation as well as ranking of particular risks.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1998Date of Patent: April 24, 2001Assignee: The United States Government as represented by the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationInventors: Robert M Weinstock, Carol S Smidts, Ali Mosleh, Yung-Hsien Chang, Sankaran Swaminathan, Francisco J Groen, Zhibin Tan

Patent number: 4648267Abstract: An atomizer (10) for a liquid has an air supply tube (20). Liquid supply tubes (26, 28) extend longitudinally along the air supply tube (20). The air supply tube (b 20) has at least one air orifice (22) extending from an inner surface (24) of the tube (20) through the tube. The liquid supply tubes (26, 28) are positioned on either side of the air orifices (22) and the liquid tubes are sealed to the air supply tube. The liquid supply tubes (26, 28) with facing liquid orifices (30) are positioned adjacent each of the air orifices 22. The liquid supply tubes (26, 28) are laterally spaced apart at the liquid orifices (30) a distance less than the diameter of the air orifices (22) to enable a beneficial venturi effect when the atomizer is in operation.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1986Date of Patent: March 10, 1987Assignee: The United States Government as represented by the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationInventor: Henry L.
