Abstract: A method for producing stabilized polymers, exhibiting enhanced thermal stability, which comprises polymerizing a mixture comprising: a monomer comprising an allyl-containing group which is bonded to primary and/or secondary hydroxyl groups on a saccharide, preferably a long chain (C.sub.3 -C.sub.20) allyl-containing ether group on the hydroxyl group; and one or monomers selected from methacrylate ester monomers, acrylate ester monomers, acrylamide monomers and styrene monomers, in amounts sufficient to produce a polymer exhibiting enhanced thermal stability. Polymers having enhanced thermal stability are obtained using a monomer comprising an allyl-containing group which is bonded to primary and/or secondary hydroxyl groups on a saccharide, as a novel stabilization crosslinking agent.
