  • Patent number: 11573466
Abstract: A transparent device for use in optical applications, and methods for using and manufacturing the device are disclosed. The device generally requires several layers, including (i) a first layer comprising a transparent conductive oxide (such as indium tin oxide (ITO)), (ii) a second layer comprising a transparent semiconductor (e.g., a pn-heterojunction or a pn-homojunction), the second layer having a surface facing the first layer, (iii) a third layer comprising a liquid crystal (such as E7), the third layer having a surface facing the second layer, and (iv) a fourth layer comprising either a second transparent conductive oxide or a second transparent semiconductor, the fourth layer having a surface facing the third layer. When light illuminates a surface of the transparent metal oxide pn-heterojunction or transparent metal oxide pn-homojunction, it induces photoconductivity, modifying the surface charges.

  • Patent number: 11565787
Abstract: The present disclosure defines a morphing airfoil having a dynamic flexible anisotropic skin system that is capable of carrying high level aerodynamic (or fluid) pressure loads over a structural surface. The structural surface can morph and bend in response to control inputs to change a lift force without separate movable control surfaces. The anisotropic skin is attached to underlying active and compliant structures. A control system causes the underlying support structure to move to a desired location which in turn causes the skin to bend and/or flex without exceeding a stress threshold and thus vary the lift profile along a span of the airfoil.

  • Patent number: 11552787
Abstract: A computing device includes an array of addressable elements. Each addressable element is a hardware element that generates a substantially consistent response when interrogated. The device includes a processor coupled to the array of addressable elements and configured to communicate using a communication network. The processor receives a public key, and processes the public key to produce at least a set of addresses. Each address in the set of addresses identifies one or more hardware elements in the array of addressable elements. The processor generates a set of responses by interrogating the one or more hardware elements in the array of addressable elements identified by the set of addresses according to a set of reading instructions, appends the responses in the set of responses to generate a private key, receives an encrypted message and decrypts the encrypted message using the private key to generate an unencrypted message.

The linear and rotary actuators have a housing defining a cylindrical interior space and a pair of pistons located inside the cylindrical interior space. An inner bearing cylinder is provided that has spaced-apart ball bearings arranged in a helical pattern on its surface that engage with a structure having an inner surface with helical grooves therein. The structure at least indirectly engages a linear drive piston that is slidably mounted in the housing, and provides rotational movement thereto. The linear drive piston has an input shaft that has ball bearings on its surface, and is inserted inside the output shaft of a revolution piston that has an inner surface with linear grooves. The actuators use hydrostatically charged integral bearing races that activate during operation to reduce friction.
