  • Publication number: 20200024692
Abstract: A process for producing a metal foam. The process includes mechanically working a metallic powder such that oxide particles and/or dissolved oxygen are finely dispersed within a metallic matrix of the metallic particles that make up the metallic powder. The mechanically worked metallic powder is then annealed in a reducing atmosphere, where the reducing atmosphere is an atmosphere that results in the reduction of oxide and/or dissolved oxygen into vapor or gas molecules such that intraparticle porosity is formed within the metallic matrix by conversion of the oxide particles and/or dissolved oxygen to create vapor or gas molecules.

  • Patent number: 10524733
Abstract: A method for improving the signal to noise ratio of an EEG signal in which a wavelet packet decomposition having a plurality of levels is first applied to a time slice of the EEG signal. A default signal is set to the first wavelet packet and a default peak response is then calculated for the first wavelet node. An update signal is set to the default signal combined with another of the wavelet nodes and an update peak response signal is then calculated of the update signal. If the update peak response signal exceeds the default peak response, the default peak response is set equal to the update peak response and the default signal is set equal to the update signal. Otherwise, the value of the current node is set to zero which effectively eliminates the signal data of the current wavelet node. These steps are reiterated for all of the wavelet nodes and, thereafter, a composite waveform of the EEG signal is reconstructed from the non-zero wavelet nodes.

  • Patent number: 10519617
Abstract: In certain embodiments, a sand-boil filter includes a hollow, conical, water-porous structure made of a mesh material having spaced mesh holes. The filter is inserted narrow-end down into a sand boil to allow water to flow from the ground through the mesh material and out the top of the sand boil, while blocking solid matter larger than the mesh holes from passing through the mesh material. In some implementations, the filter is filled with gravel that holds the filter in place while allowing water to flow out of the sand boil. Such filters prevent sand boils from growing while relieving the underground hydrostatic pressure that created the sand boil in the first place and inhibiting subterranean erosion that can cause failure of a nearby levee. The conical shape provides relatively large surface area that inhibits clogging and allows each filter to be used for a range of different sand-boil sizes.

  • Patent number: 10520272
Abstract: Openings in a muzzle brake provide recoil inhibition and impulse noise attenuation by redirecting the propellant gases to the external environment. A turning vane aggressively turns and redirects the propellant gases in a rearward direction to counter the recoil of the weapon system. An angled baffle provides a physical barrier to redirect propellant gases rearward to provide additional force to counteract the recoil force. Attenuation slits mitigate blast overpressure by producing a fluid barrier of high velocity propellant gases directed radially away from the muzzle brake. The fluid barrier from the attenuation slits interacts with the redirected propellant gas from the turning vane and the angled baffle and redirects the counter recoil gases away from the crew.
