Abstract: A fixed format message entry device employs a solid state memory for storing data. A portable keyboard is provided to input data to a display that is packaged with the keyboard and associated electronics. The display is comprised of an array of light emitting diodes operating with fiber optics. Overlay cards have openings, through which the light emitting diodes pass. Printed codes appear on the cards, next to respective fiber optics thus facilitating the interpretation of a display, by an operator.
