  • Publication number: 20080154053
Abstract: Fatty acid ester derivatives and a process for their production from unsaturated fatty acids are disclosed. The process comprises: a) reacting an unsaturated fatty acid or an ester thereof having one or more sites of unsaturation, with an epoxidation reagent to form a fatty acid epoxide wherein at least one of the sites of unsaturation of the fatty acid or fatty acid ester is converted to an oxirane ring; and b) reacting the fatty acid epoxide produced in a) with a carboxylic acid to form a hydroxy fatty acid ester derivative wherein the oxirane ring is opened and converted to a hydroxy ester comprising a hydroxyl group at one carbon of the opened oxirane ring and an ester of the carboxylic acid at the other carbon of the opened oxirane ring.

  • Patent number: 7074559
Abstract: The present invention provides nucleic acid molecules unique to M. paratuberculosis. The invention also provides the polypeptides encoded by the M. paratuberculosis-specific nucleic acid molecules of the invention, and antibodies having specific binding affinity for the polypeptides encoded by the M. paratuberculosis-specific nucleic acid molecules. The invention further provides for methods of detecting M. paratuberculosis in a sample using nucleic acid molecules, polypeptides, and antibodies of the invention. The invention additionally provides methods of preventing a M. paratuberculosis infection in an animal.

  • Patent number: 6395879
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of producing monoclonal antibodies that are highly specific for (1) unique epitopes of Campylobacter jejuni (Cj) only and (2) epitopes conserved between Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli (Cc) outer membranes; to specific monoclonal antibodies made by the methods of the instant invention; and uses thereof. The invention is drawn further to immunogens comprising the outer membrane complexes of Cj and Cc.

  • Patent number: 5958490
Abstract: A fumigant which is effective for the control of postharvest disease in agricultural commodities utilizes carbon supports impregnated with natural volatiles to provide controlled release of the volatiles in storage containers and facilities. Activated carbon is an effective carbon support, while essential oils and benzaldehyde are useful natural volatiles.

  • Patent number: 5091301
Abstract: A distinctive repetitive genomic element of Leptospira interrogans serovar hardjo-type hardjo-bovis permits distinguishing this pathogen type from other commonly found leptospires in North American cattle using single-stranded RNA probes. Plasmids carrying DNA templates for useful probes have been deposited as NRRL Accession Nos. B-18462, B-18463, and B-18464. The probes are sufficiently sensitive to detect hardjo-bovis in as few as 1.times.10.sup.2 cells/ml. The diagnostic capabilities of the probes render them useful not only as herd management tools, but also in epidemiology studies designed to determine the origin and migration of L. interrogans isolates.
